--------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The coaches and students at Illinois State University are pleased to invite you to attend the Last Chance tournament hosted asynchronously the week of March 8-11. The site is now open on Speechwire and accepting entries.

We are excited to be offering all 11 NFA events (note, this is after the AFA qualification deadline so this is for NFA quals only).    We will have novice sections in any event that has at least 9 varsity and 5 novice entries.  Rounds will be asynchronous (please make sure your videos are set to "unlisted"), and the dress code is "come as you are." Seriously - it's our spring break and we don't expect anyone to wear suits.  Let's have fun!

Last Chance was our last bit of normal before everything closed in 2020 - we are so excited that our return to in-person competition will be here at ISU for NFA 2022!  Our goal is to get as many students qualified as possible so they can come and join us in April.  Nothing like a return to "normal" in Normal!

Sincerely,

Megan Koch

RULES OF EVENTS

GENERAL:   All programs and speeches must not have been used by a student in any competition (high school or college) prior to September 1, 2021.  Novice divisions will be offered in events that have at least 9 varsity and 5 novice entries.  A novice is a student who has no intercollegiate forensics experience prior to September 1, 2020.  Competitors must be undergraduates working on their first degree.  We will be following the rules and ethical standards of the National Forensics Association. For event descriptions or clarification of rules, please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/nationalforensicsassociation/about-nfa/governing-documents

ENTRIES:  Each student may enter as many events as they want.  Events that have 7 or fewer entries will be judged "head-to-head" by three judges.  Events with 8 or more entries will be judged by two judges in "preliminary" rounds and then broken to a "head-to-head" final with at least one judge (3 if the pool allows).  From prelims into the final, ties will be broken by speaker points.  In "head-to-head" rounds, ties will be broken by speaker points and then by judges' preference.

The deadline for receiving entries and videos is 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8th.  Entries and video links must be posted to Speechwire.

LP Events only need to provide one video for all rounds.  Prompts will be posted to Speechwire by Thursday March 3rd.  Impromptu videos should include prep time.  Extemp should NOT include prep time.

JUDGES & FEES:  Entry fees are $5 per slot (to cover the cost of Speechwire).

Each school should furnish one judge for every six slots.  Hired judges are available at $12.00 per uncovered slot (hired judges will be paid $12.00 per round).  We will gladly pay any clean judges a school can provide beyond their obligation to ensure better ballots for your students. School judges who no-show an assigned ballot will be charged a $15 nuisance fee to hire a replacement judge.  ALL fees are assessed as of 5pm Tuesday March 8th.

Checks should be made payable to ISU Forensics and mailed to us at Campus Box 4480 Normal IL 61790.  If you prefer to pay online with a credit card you may do so here: https://secure.touchnet.com/C20868_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=1650&SINGLESTORE=true

AWARDS:  To keep costs down, we will not be giving out trophies for finalists.  Your qualification will be your award!

ATTIRE:  This is a "come as you are" tournament - no need for suits!

MODALITY:  This is an asynchronous tournament.  Please make sure your videos are set to be "unlisted" so they can be accessed by our judges.
