Welcome to NFCFL Grand Finals at Windermere High School!

This page contains important information about event regulations and topics.  For all events, we follow the NCFL guidelines and rules.  Please refer to those or contact Brian McAninch at nfcflpresident22@gmail,com with any questions.  The registration deadline for this tournament is Friday, February 18 at 5pm. Please read all information you receive in regard to this tournament carefully, as procedures for Grand Finals are very different.

Please note that all scheduled round times are TENTATIVE. We will progress the tournament as quickly as possible, but plan to be at Windermere High all afternoon on Friday and all day Saturday.

COMPETITION WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY, February 21 AT 4:30PM.  PLEASE DO NO ARRIVE PRIOR TO 3:45PM.  COMPETITION ON SATURDAY WILL BEGIN AT 8:00AM for Debate events, 9:30 for IE.  PLEASE PLAN TO ARRIVE BY 7:45AM.

Meals: Please be sure to order two meals per student or judge (one lunch and one dinner).

We will be offering the following events:

  • Declamation (For 9th and 10th grade students ONLY)
  • Extemporaneous speaking
  • Original Oratory
  • Oral Interpretation of Literature (Prose/Poetry)
  • Duo Interpretation
  • Dramatic Performance
  • Public Forum
  • Lincoln Douglas Debate
  • Congressional Debate
  • Policy Debate

As this is our National Qualifier, all events will be in the Varsity division only.  Novices are welcome to compete, but there will be no novice designation nor any best novice awards.  All entries must be HIGH SCHOOL students only.  

For this tournament, we will offer 5 rounds of competition in all events, and elimination rounds for all events over 18 entries with the exception of Congress.  Congressional debate will split to two chambers and have a supers session after 28 entries is surpassed.

Debate Topics:

We will be using the NSDA debate topics for the months of February (PF), January/February (LD), and 2018-2019 (CX) for this tournament.

  • Public Forum debate: Resolved: On balance, Turkey’s membership is beneficial to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
  • Lincoln Douglas debate: Resolved: The appropriation of outer space by private entities is unjust.
  • Policy debate: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.

This tournament our topics will be pulled from the 2020 Nationals Extemp Topics. As soon as they are released they will be posted on SpeechWire under "Files to Download".

 

Congress Announcements:

Please remember that all legislation is due no later than Tuesday,February 15th, at 3pm  to Chris Sprouse (thechairhighlyfrowns@gmail.com) via a coach's email and using appropriate Google Doc templates.  Schools are reminded that no legislation submitted in the previous year will be eligible for competition and must not be previously debated, and to be accepted.  As per the NFCFL BY-Laws: Any Legislation that is sublitted misformatted will be returned to the Head Coach for correction and must be re-submitted, correctly, before the deadline.
