DOUBLE ENTRY

Expanded double entry options for the Regional Qualifying Tournament: Students may enter a maximum of two events at the Regional Qualifying Tournament, but may choose to enter two “A wave” (Friday) events or two “B wave” (Saturday) events or one “A wave” event and one “B wave” event with the following restrictions:

Students entered in National or International Extemporaneous Speaking may not enter an additional A Wave (Friday) event, but may double enter in a B wave (Saturday) event. No student may enter both extemps.

Students in Public Forum, Cross Examination and Lincoln-Douglas Debate may not double enter in an additional B Wave (Saturday) event but may double enter in an A wave (Friday) event.  No student may enter more than one debate event.

Students must still complete the Double Entry form prior to their first round of competition.

DOUBLE ENTRY FORM: The participation of each student is limited to a maximum of two events at the Regional Qualifying tournament. The student may participate in only one event at the State Tournament. The student and his/her coach must decide prior to the first round of the Regional Qualifying meet which event to enter at the State Tournament should the student qualify in both. This decision must be identified on the Double Entry Form (page 44 and posted under “Files for Download”) and submitted to the Regional Tournament Director PRIOR TO THE FIRST ROUND OF THE REGIONAL QUALIFYING MEET. (TOURNAMENT HANDBOOK pg. 45 [pg. 48 of PDF])

–Students who double-enter will need to complete a doubling form prior to the beginning of the tournament. Though they can qualify in both events, they must pick ONE event to compete in at State.

–*Doubling forms will determine which event a student will compete in at State if that student DOUBLE QUALIFIES at our Regional tournament. If a student qualifies in one event and is an alternate in another, the doubling form does not apply, as they only QUALIFIED in one event.  If alternates are pulled in to compete at State in the event that the already-qualified student is an alternate in, that student would be skipped, as they will already be competing at State in the event they qualified in.

OO/INFO MANUSCRIPTS:

OO and Info are different events, and therefore students who double-enter in both events should be performing two distinct speeches.

You will enter topics on SpeechWire as part of the online registration process.

NEW in 2020: You should have the ability to upload manuscripts files on SpeechWire. However, please plan to bring a hard copy of OO and Informative manuscripts with completed OO/Info manuscript forms (in “Files for Download” section) to final registration on site, just in case.

INTERP:

You’ll need to enter titles and authors of ALL interp selections into SpeechWire as part of the online registration process.

HAVE ALL ORIGINAL SOURCES FOR ALL INTERP PIECES ON SITE AT THE TOURNAMENT! Have them on hand--if a piece's validity is questioned, it is in your student's best interest to have it with you so that we can confirm that it meets CHSAA rules.

FEES:

$13 per student
Please send payment to:
CHSAA
Attn: Sandra Williamson
14855 E. 2nd Ave.
Aurora, CO 80111
Ensure that CHSAA receives your payment within two weeks following our regional tournament to avoid a late fee of $25. That's March 18th for our region.

→ Drop Fee:  The drop fee for CHSAA Tournaments is equal to the registration fee.  Drops made after Friday, February 25, 2022, 3:30 PM MST, do not reduce your team’s entry fee.  Drops noted on the regional director’s report will be invoiced to your school by CHSAA the Monday after the regional event. (Example: A student drops out of an Individual event: a drop fee of $13.00 would need to be paid)

DEBATE TOPICS:

LD  (Jan/Feb 2022)
Resolved: The appropriation of outer space by private entities is unjust.

PF  (Feb 2022)
Resolved: On balance, Turkey’s membership is beneficial to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

CX
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.

NOTE: All PF and LD debaters in all regions will debate the February topic to qualify for State (we are the last Regional tournament and the only one in March). State competitors in PF and LD will debate the March topics at State.

COACHES:

If you have not already done so, please complete the coach contact & job preference form linked here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1tkiQF5HAt0s4w7NXmbikSrzUaI_-mszw5gt7e9ctA3w/prefill

JUDGES:

Judges at regionals should have judged at least once during the season.

Please ensure that any judges you bring have taken the judge certification test on CHSAA’s website. There will be computers on-site for judges to complete the test, but it helps us streamline the beginning of the tournament if they take it in advance. They can take the test multiple times until they pass it with 100% to be certified.
