Region 7 Coaches
Regionals/State Quals:
Saturday, February 19th
At Woodland Park High School.  151 Panther WayWoodland Park, CO  80863

1.  Registration:  Registration is on speechwire.com and is open right now. Registration is due by Friday, February 11th. Information from CHSAA about Regionals can be found here. An abbreviate version – complete with Oratory/Informative forms and the Doubling form is attached to this email. Please, make a point of being thoroughly familiar with the CHSAA Regionals rules. Payment must be received by CHSAA (14855 E. 2nd Ave, Aurora, CO  80011) no later than Friday, March 4th.  Cost is $13.00 per student (So P-F or Duo Teams would be $26.00).  By CHSAA rules, late registrations will be assessed a $25.00 late fee and drops on the day of the meet will be assessed a drop fee in addition to and equal to the registration fee (e.g. a student drops in humor, total fee would be $26: $13 registration + $13 drop fee).  Adds on the day of the meet will require an additional $20 per student.

2.  Original Oratory:  As usual, please submit your Original Oratories and Informative speeches no later than Friday, February 11th (the earlier, the better, just in case there are issues we need to iron out).   If your student’s OOs and Infos aren’t submitted by the deadline your students will not be allowed to compete at the regional tournament.  Remember to include a Works Cited page and no more than 150 quoted words (underlined in the document).  Let me know if you need help with this. I will send you more information soon about how to submit your OOs and INFOs.

3.  Events:  WAVE A: Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Duo Interpretation, Program Oral Interpretation, and Informative Speaking.Wave B:  National Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Interpretation of Dramatic Literature, Interpretation of Humorous Literature, and Interpretation of Poetry. All schools are limited to 4 entries per event.  You will be allowed to list an alternate in each event, but it is rare for an alternate to get pulled in.  There will be no final rounds.  Awards will be held on Saturday as soon as we can manage it.  See schedule below.

4.  Doubling:  Here are the CHSAA doubling rules:Each student may enter a maximum of two events: two “A” events or two “B” events or one “A” event and one “B” event subject to the following restrictions: students entered in National or International Extemporaneous Speaking may not enter an additional B Wave event, but may double enter in an A wave event. Students in Public Forum, Cross Examination and Lincoln-Douglas Debate may not double enter in an additional A Wave event but may double enter in an B wave event. Students must still complete the Double Entry form prior to their first round of competition.

5.  Sources: Please have all sources used readily available.  All sources used must meet CHSAA rules.

6.  Coaches:A registered coach from each school must be on site during the tournament.  Please note: I will not check in a team without its coach present.  I cannot accept liability for students from other schools.

7.  Judges:  All judges MUST pass the CHSAA test and must have judge at least one regular season tournament to work at this tournament.  No exceptions.  If you're not sure if your judges have taken the test, the CHSAA website has a link that shows all the CHSAA certified judges in the state.  Each competing school is expected to provide judges to cover the number of entries they have at the tournament.
