Dear Speech Coach:

Once again, the speech season is underway, and this is your official invitation to the Panther Invitational to be held in Bancroft January 29.  As usual, we have a talented field of teams, so this meet should be good preparation for speakers.  If for any reason your team won’t be attending, please contact me as soon as possible.

You may enter as many per event as you wish, but please realize that triple entries within a flight will be extremely tightly scheduled.  Please submit your entries by Wednesday, January 26, at 2:00 p.m. The entry fee is $7 per entry, and each school must supply one judge for every six entries or portion thereof.  You may also pay $15 per uncovered entry for us to hire judges.  For example, if you bring fourteen entries, you would need to supply three judges.  However, if you wanted to bring only two, you could add $30 to your entry fee for the two uncovered entries.  You could also pay us $210, and we would hire all judges for you.  Since judges need to be assigned to sections in advance, please use the number of entries you have entered as of Jan. 26 to calculate the number of judges you need to bring.  You can bring your entry fees on the day of the meet, or if you want to mail a check in advance, please send it to the following address:

As always, the goal of this contest is to help students prepare for upcoming conference and district competitions.  Therefore, there will be no sweepstakes awards.  Medals will be awarded to the top six speakers in each individual event and five in group events.  Our meet is fairly small, so we do not run a JV division.

The day will begin with a coaches’ and judges' meeting at 7:45 A.M., in the school library.  Speaking will begin at 8:15.  We plan to have two rounds with six speakers in individual events advancing to finals.  Group events will also have two preliminary rounds.  However, because of time constraints, only the top five in each event will advance.  When I have completed the schematics, I will forward them to you.  We will try to keep things moving so that we can get basketball players done in time for evening tournament games.  Should it be necessary for you to drop or substitute entries, after the schedule is set, please contact me as soon as possible so that the schedule can be modified accordingly.  Even if you can text me your drops the night before or right before you get on the bus to leave, that helps me plan ahead.

We are excited to invite fans back into our building to watch speeches, but with the uptick in Covid cases, we strongly encourage audience members, including speakers who are not performing, to wear masks.  I will try to keep you updated with more details as the date approaches.  If you have questions, you may call me at 402-648-3336(school) or call or text me at 402-750-0860 (cell).  You may also contact me by e-mail at <rras@esu2.org>.  We look forward to receiving your entry and to seeing you in Bancroft January 29.
