View manager contact information Saint Cloud State University Icebox Classic Virtual Debate Tournament (NPDA Only, Online) Saturday, February 5, 2022 ***Entries Due by 5:00 PM (CST) on Monday, January 31, 2022*** Dear Friends: Saint Cloud State University Forensics and the SCSU Department of Communication Studies are pleased to invite you and your team to this year’s online, synchronous Icebox Classic Debate Tournament (Debate Only) on Saturday, February 5, 2022. The Icebox will only feature a debate competition this year. This year’s tournament will be held online and feature four rounds of debate with out-rounds as warranted. The tournament starts with round one at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 5. Please enter the Icebox Classic using SpeechWire via the following link: http://www.SpeechWire.com. Awards (After last debate round via Zoom) Parliamentary Debate: NPDA rules will govern debate with the following exceptions: in-room topic announcement; no coaching/team prep during the 15 minute preparation time; no flex-time; dictionary use only during prep time; and no internet access during prep or rounds. Some rounds may be judged by a lay judge. SCSU students will also participate in the tournament. Judging One judge will cover two debate teams. All judges are expected to be available and considered “clean” for elimination rounds. Awards The top five speakers and out-round participants will be recognized. FeesFees will be assessed at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
There will be a fee of $50 for each uncovered entry in Parliamentary Debate. Please pay online or make checks payable to “SCSU Forensics” and send to: SCSU Speech & Debate c/o Scott Wells Department of Communication Studies 720 Fourth Avenue South, Riverview 117 St. Cloud, MN 56301-4498. All fees are due at registration. Failure to pay fees at registration will disqualify teams from competition. Drops after Tuesday night will be assessed an additional $5.00 nuisance fee per drop. Drops at registration will be assessed $30 for each debate team drop. Entries/Deadline Entries must be submitted on Speechwire by the deadline of 5:00 PM (CST) on Monday, January 31, 2022. *****Please identify novice competitors***** All entries will be confirmed. Please list your students along with judges and any conflicts. ***Finally, we ask that you identify any of your competitors who are in their first year of college competition*** A novice debate team must be comprised of two novice debaters.
