UIL MIDDLE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Coaches and UIL Coordinators:

Vela Middle School is proud to host this year’s UIL District Tournament on  January 22nd.  Due to the ongoing pandemic, regulations set forth by the University Interscholastic League, and our concern for the safety of all students and staff – The formatting of our tournament is still being discussed. If it is in person, the tournament will take place at Vela Middle School. If Virtual, the tournament will take place fully on speechwire.

We are excited about the schedule of events, level of competition, and quality judging for this tournament.

SPEECHWIRE.COM

Each campus will need to create ONE Speechwire account for their school.  In the event that a campus has more than one speech coach, the username and password for the school account should be shared with each speech coach so that they can register their students in the tournament named “VELA MS UIL DISTRICT”.  This account will also be used to turn in video links.

Speech coaches will need to manually enter students’ names and information as entries under Tournament registration.

All entries must be registered on Speechwire between January 5th – 14th

IF THE TOURNAMENT IS VIRTUAL, WE WILL BE RECORDING VIDEOS OF THE PERFORMANCES. INFORMATION BELOW:

VIDEO RECORDING AND UPLOADS:

In the event that the tournament is held virtual, all coaches will be responsible for uploading recordings of their students’ performances to a YOUTUBE or ONE DRIVE account. It is essential that when uploading videos to YOUTUBE, the videos are categorized as unlisted. When uploading to one drive, the link must be viewable to everyone. The coaches will then copy and paste the link into the “Video links” page under Tournament registration for each event that a student is registered in.

Note: Videos should not contain any mascot or school information.

All videos (except impromptu) will be due no later than January 20th
