The JM Speech Team cordially invites you to our John Marshall Supreme Speech Invitational on Saturday, February 12, 2021.  (It is not Valentine's Day, but we will make it a LOVELY experience nonetheless!) The competition will consist of 3 rounds and a varsity final round. We want our novices to get as much exposure to our varsity level students, so novice will not have a final round of their own. We received positive feedback on our Novice Awards in the past. As a result, we will be recognizing the top Novice speakers for awards.

Events: All 13 MSHSL categories - *Remember the time limits! Discussion is still one hour. All draw categories are 7 minutes; the remaining categories are 10 minutes. We will also be adding POI (Program Oral Interpretation) if there is enough competitors to have full rounds.

Entries:  Students may double-enter in all categories except for discussion.
Fees: $7.00 per entry, duo counts as one entry.  Double-entries are $7.00 per event.  Please make checks payable to John Marshall Speech.  Schools will be charged fees based on entries as of February 8 regardless of subsequent drops.  Any adds, if allowable, will be an additional charge.

Judges: Each school should provide one judge for every six entries or fraction thereof. *Please be sure to set your judges as Interp or Public Speaking or Either on Speech Wire.  Thank you. We would like to stick to our usual schedule and hope to keep rounds to 6 speakers.  Your judges will be busy!

Judging Finals:
We ask that ALL judges be available to judge final rounds. If you have any coaches at the tournament who are not judging, please consider making them available for final rounds, it will make our lives much easier. We would like to offer panels of 3 judges for varsity finals if we can make it work. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated!

Extemporaneous reading and storytelling draws:  We will draw from all of the stories and poems.

Discussion: Tasks will be based on the outline. Area I, Subsection Topics - Influences on Our Democracy

Concessions:  Lunch concessions will be available for sale.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for judges and coaches.

Schedule:
7:45 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.: Registration
8:15 a.m.: Draw Meeting in the library
8:30 a.m.:  Draws begin – Students will draw before all 3 rounds.
8:30 a.m.:  Judges’ meeting
9:00 a.m.:  Round I
10:30 a.m.: Round II
12:00 p.m.: Round III for NON Draw categories
12:15 p.m.: Round III for Draw categories
2:00 p.m.:  Varsity Final Rounds
2:15 p.m.: Varsity Final Rounds Draw Categories
4:15 p.m.:  Awards Ceremony

*We plan to stay on schedule.  Judges will be asked to stop speakers at 7 or 10 minutes, depending on the category, so we are able to do so.  Please prepare your speakers accordingly.
Registrations are due by Tuesday, February 8 at 5:00 p.m.

As we did last year, we are continuing to have WiFi available for Discussion and Extemp Speakers DURING rounds. Later in the season, this will not be an option, but we feel it's very helpful for novices in these categories. The network is rpsguest. No password is needed. Of course, students are not required to use WiFi; it is simply an open option.

We are excited to see you and your team!
