2022 Lafayette HS Irish Alumni Varsity Invitationals

Dear Speech and Debate Coaches and Teams:

The Lafayette High School Chapter of the National Forensics League cordially invites you to our annual Lafayette HS Irish Alumni Varsity Invitational to be held on January 21st and 22nd. Smithville High School will carry the Novice portion of this weekend.

Events at the Varsity tournament will include:
Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum, Debate Policy Debate, Student Congress, US Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Original Oratory, Program Oral Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Prose/Poetry, Children’s Storytelling, and Duet Acting.

Policy Debate: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.
Lincoln-Douglas: Resolved: January/February 2022 NSDA Varsity Topic
Public Forum: Resolved: January 2022 NSDA Varsity Topic
Student Congress: December 2021 NSDA legislation.

We will guarantee 2 entries in each event and then all other entries will be waitlisted upon entry. Extra entries will be awarded as available and at the discretion of the host school. Entry fees will be 8.00/entry.

Submit entries on SpeechWire: Lafayette HS Irish Alumni Varsity Invitationals.
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, January 12th, 3 pm. Confirmations: 2 pm, Thursday, January 13th.

Masks: While the mask mandate has been lifted (at this time), we would still ENCOURAGE students to wear masks when not performing. Judges will have the option of wearing a mask or not, and knowing many of our community judges, they will probably not be masked, so just a heads up there. Judges will also be informed to NOT instruct students to remove their masks (if they choose to compete with them on), and will be instructed to judge all students the same regardless of masking status. ***If your students are not comfortable with the number of unmasked people in the room, encourage them to leave after they perform as though they are double-entered**

Please note:  Though LHS is not completely inaccessible, it is not particularly wheelchair-friendly. If you have a student(s) who is wheelchair-bound and/or struggles with stairs, please let me know who and in what event(s) he/she will compete in, so that I may reassign rooms to better accommodate him/her.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shane Heard Kate Miro
