You're invited to join us for the Northfield Raider Speech Invitational on Saturday, March 19, 2022!

 

Like many of you, our main plan right now is to be flexible with our plan! :)
An in-person tournament would be ideal, but we will evaluate the public health situation as the date nears, and will host a virtual tournament if necessary.

The most helpful information for now would simply be for you to indicate if your team plans to attend or not, as this will allow us to know if we can open up the tournament to more schools or if we need to remain by-invitation-only.

And now for the usual details: 

 

Location: Northfield High School (or virtual), 1400 Division St. So., Northfield, MN 55057

Events: all 13 MSHSL categories

Entries: Students may double-enter in all categories except for Discussion.

Fees: $7.00 per entry, Duo counts as one entry. Schools will be charged fees based on entries as of March 16 at 5pm, regardless of subsequent drops. Any adds, if workable, will be charged the $7.00 entry fee. 

Judges: Each school should provide one judge for every six entries or fraction thereof. Unfilled judging assignments will be billed at $100.00 per judge. A *very* limited number of judges may be available for hire.

Draws and Discussion: Extemporaneous Reading draws, Storytelling draws, and Discussion tasks-- all selections and topics are “fair game”. 

Concessions: If we are in-person and safety protocols allow, lunch concessions will be available for sale.  A continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided for judges and coaches if safety protocols allow.

Schedule:

7:45am-8:30 am: Registration

8:45am: Draws begin

8:55am: Judges’ meeting

9:15am: Round I

10:30am: Round II

11:45am: Round III

Finals: as soon as possible
Awards: as soon as possible

 

Registrations are due by Wednesday, March 16 at 5:00pm on SpeechWire; this is the official registration number to use in determining entry fees. Please note that we have a fairly small school, and thus can only accommodate a limited number of entries. Our tournament tends to fill, so please register as early as is feasible.
