CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
INVITATIONAL
Turmoil has engulfed the Western Slope. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute.
Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Earth.
While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched a battalion of Speech & Debate teams, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict....
*** Central High School of Grand Junction is excited to host the Star Wars Invitational, a themed tournament of galactic proportions! The tournament is scheduled IN PERSON for Saturday, December, 11th at Central HIgh School (550 Warrior Way, Grand Junction, CO).
Students and coaches are encouraged to attend dressed as their favorite character from the Star Wars universe (non-canon welcome, GET CREATIVE). A costume competition will be held during awards and the top three students will be presented with lightsaber trophies. Stars Wars decorations and other themed elements will be included throughout the tournament. PLEASE NO GUN/BLASTER COSTUME ELEMENTS!
Please REGISTER on Speechwire by Friday, December 3rd. Registration is $8.00 for individual events and $16.00 for team events (DUO and PF). Registration fees will not be refunded after December 8th (on Speechwire or the morning of the tournament) for any drops.

We will be using the NSDA Nov/Dec LD topic and the NSDA Dec. PF topic.
Extemp Topics (check back Friday, November 12th)
Each school with at least one entry in Congressional Debate is REQUIRED to submit 1 piece of student legislation and may not exceed 3 pieces of student legislation. Legislation centered around space exploration, trade, peace negotiations, or constitutional amendments are highly encouraged to accompany the Star Wars theme. Please submit legislation to Caleb Ferganchick no later than Sunday, November 28th.
MISC. NOTES
As this is an in person event, students, judges, coaches, and any observers are REQUIRED to wear a face mask unless actively eating/drinking or competing in a round. Students reserve the right to wear masks in round if they choose. Judges will be instructed to abstain from including masking decisions in their evaluations.
Breakfast, lunch, and snack concessions will be available to students throughout the day. Food will be provided free of charge to coaches and judges.
As an extension of commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion a gender neutral bathroom will be available at the tournament. Additionally, students are welcome and encouraged to include their pronouns in introductions or when writing their names and pieces for judges. Please let us know in advance if additional accommodations can be provided for your students.
Please strive to arrive at Central High School at 7:00 AM for registration so we can begin Extemp and Value draw at 7:30 AM.
