Ben Davis Debate Invitational
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Indiana. View manager contact information Dear Coach and Speakers, The Ben Davis Debate Invitational-- Saturday, December 18. 2021 We invite your squad to our in-person Giant Debate invitational. COVID POLICY We will adhere to our school district’s current policy for Covid which includes the wearing of masks at all-times while inside the building. We will update this policy as we get closer to this event. DIRECTIONS AND PARKING Please park in the front of the building and Entre through Door 1. Buses please use the bus lot.
REGISTRATION/ENTRY DEADLINE All Registration will be done on www.speechwire.com. No emails, faxes or paper entries will be accepted. We strongly encourage that entries be made as early as possible (like right now, so you don’t forget) Registration will be locked (meaning no adding of entries can be added) on Monday, December 13th, 2021 at 5:00 PM. Coaches will be able to make names changes and such until Friday December 17th, 2021 at Noon.
Entry deadline is Monday, December 13.
TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE We will be offering the following 3 debate events for novice* and varsity: LD, PF, and congressional debate. We will offer an OPEN division in 4 debate events: policy, WSD, extemporaneous debate, and Big Question.
*Definition of a novice - A novice is defined as a first year debater with no speaking experience in either speech or debate. A novice student should have less than 40 NFL points.
TOPICS The topics are: Policy (CX)-- Protection of water resources-- NSDA Worlds (WSD)--TBD per the IHSFA December release for 2021 Lincoln-Douglas (LD)-- Unconditional Right of Workers to Strike---NSDA Public Forum (PF)-- Cryptocurrency Transactions---NSDA Congress Bills: TBD Big Question (BQ)--- Religious Beliefs and Practice---NSDA Extemp Debate (EXTD)--- TBD week of 12/13/21
JUDGES THIS IS AN E-TOURNAMENT – MEANING E-BALLOTS – BRING A DEVICE The judge ratio for all events will be 1 judge per three single entries for LD, congress, extemp debate, and Big Question debaters. We expect to single flight all rounds.
The judge ratio for all teams in WSD, policy, and PF will be 1 judge per 2 teams.
Judges should expect to judge all categories at either level. We also welcome extra judges. Varsity debaters may not judge at this invitational. All judges need to be responsible adults.
DROPS Call late drops to (317) 988-7188 by 8:15 am on 12/18/2021.
BALLOT RETURN All judges should return their signed and properly scored ballots and completed critique sheets at the end of each round to the ballot table located outside of S107. Judges are expected to stay for the entire meet.
BALLOTS and WIN-LOSS Records All Ballots will be uploaded on Speechwire after the tournament for any coach to download. WIN-LOSS records will be printed and distributed during awards.
CONCESSIONS There should be no leaving the building as food for students will be served in the cafeteria. Complimentary food for judges, coaches and bus drivers will be provided. Please enter entries before the December 13 deadline, as we will waitlist if numbers warrant us to do so due to room capacity for all events. There are no team fees; however, we expect to sell a limited list of items to raise team funds.
