November 1, 2021

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The coaches and students at Illinois State University are pleased to invite you to attend the Been There Done That tournament on Friday November 12, 2021 (for our District V friends, this is the day BEFORE our District tournament).  The site is now open on Speechwire and accepting entries.

We are excited to be offering all 11 AFA / NFA events.  Rounds will be synchronous on Zoom, and the dress code is "come as you are."

We may not be not truly "back" yet, but we hope you'll join us for some fun and end of semester qualifications!
Sincerely,

Megan Koch

RULES OF EVENTS

GENERAL:   All programs and speeches must not have been used by a student in any competition (high school or college) prior to September 1, 2021.  Competitors must be undergraduates working on their first degree.  We will be following the rules and ethical standards of the American Forensics Association.

ENTRIES: Students are limited to three events, but are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to stick to two events.

Events Offered
Extemporaneous Speaking       Informative Speaking
Persuasive Speaking       Impromptu Speaking

The deadline for receiving entries is 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 9.  Drops will be accepted after the deadline without penalty until noon Wednesday, November 10.

Entries should be posted to Speechwire

JUDGES & FEES:  Entry fees are $5 and fees will be assessed at 5pm Tuesday.   Drops will be accepted free of charge until noon on Wednesday.  Drop fees after the deadline are $5/slot, but we want to accommodate students and avoid fees as much as possible - please remain in communication with the tournament if you have a student who might need to drop.

To make the tournament function, each school MUST provide at least one judge, and each judge will cover six slots.  Hired judges are available at $10.00 per uncovered slot.  We will gladly pay any clean judges a school can provide beyond their obligation to ensure better ballots for your students.  Judges dropped after the Wednesday, November 10 @ 12:00 p.m. deadline will result in a nuisance fee of $25.00 each plus the additional cost of hiring a judge.

Checks should be made payable to ISU Forensics and mailed to us at Campus Box 4480 Normal IL 61790.  If you prefer to pay online with a credit card, just let us know and we will send a link!

AWARDS:  To keep costs down, we will not be giving out trophies for finalists.

ATTIRE:  This is a "come as you are" tournament - no need for suits!

MODALITY:  This is a synchronous tournament on Zoom.  Please make sure you are logged in to a valid Zoom account and have pushed through all the recent updates!

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE is posted on Speechwire.  This schedule will DEFINITELY CHANGE TO ACCOMMODATE ENTRIES AND JUDGES.  Our goal is to make the day as short and efficient as possible, so please make sure you check Speechwire for day-of adjustments!
