Hello, friends! We cordially invite you to the IUPUC Invitational Tournament. In these strange times.

The meet will take place on December 4, 2021. We will offer the traditional 14 IHSFA (Broadcasting, Discussion, Dramatic Interp, Duo, Humorous Interp, Impromptu, Informative, IX, Original Oratory, Original Performance, Poetry, POI, Prose, and USX) speech events using the regular rules as well as four Denate events (PF, LD, Congress, and WSD. These events will all be conducted synchronously using Speechwire and NSDA Campus.

Discussion prompts and radio prompts will be released a week before the tournament..

Broadcasting will follow the following format: Rounds 1 and 3--Five-minute news program including intros/outros (DJ's choice) and commercial ; Round 2--two-minute editorial; Round 4--OTS.

**CONGRESS DOCKET: Prep the IHSFA December docket, which is posted as of 11/20/21. Chamber will vote on a docket of four bills/resolutions at the opening of business.**

There will be four straight rounds* of competition with no elimination rounds. We are still tossing around ideas about the awards ceremony at the end of the tournament - ideally, we will run a live Zoom of awards that will also be recorded and distributed.

*World Schools Debate will run prepared rounds concurrent with rounds 1 and 4, with an impromptu round sometime around the beginning of round 2, for a total of three rounds. The following prepared prompts should be... um... prepared:

"This House would end the use of for-profit prisons by federal and state governments." (Round 1)
"This House would use antitrust legislation to break up Facebook." (Round 3)

First round starts at 9am, with extemp prep beginning at 8:30am. Impromptu will be offset for doublers. Schedule is tentative and listed on Speechwire. Awards TBA in terms of both time and format.

Schools can enter up to 5 entries per event, and no non-sweeps teams are permitted.  Teams can enter up to 40 speech entries and 15 debate entries. No non-sweeps teams permitted.

Students can double across any two speech events except Discussion.

We will ask you to supply one judge for every five contestants or fraction thereof. Please specify whether your judges are speech judges, debate judges, or Congress judges. We will be in need of at least one parliamentarian.

Since we are not running concessions at this tournament, we will be charging an entry fee of $2 per sngle entry and $4 per duo (Duo, OP if duo, PF), and $6 per WSD entry. Our goal is to cover the cost of using NSDA Campus, while IUPUC will be covering a portion of the cost of Speechwire. If the entry fee makes participating in this tournament cost prohibitive, please communicate with the hosts about that. We want to support this activity in Indiana and encourage many programs to compete.

Please make sure, if you are competing together at a school or space that has restricted wi-fi, that you whitelist the associated websites that NSDA Campus uses. That list can be found on the National Speech and Debate Association website.

Please have all entries on Speechwire by the morning of December 2, 2021, at which point we will close registration and run final invoices. Please mail your check made out to Columbus East Speech Team to:
