Dear Speech and Debate Coaches and Moderators:

The Randolph High School Speech & Debate Team is pleased to invite you to the 32nd Annual Randolph Fall Classic Speech & Debate Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021. We are very excited to be hosting our tournament IN PERSON with two new asynchronous options (Children's Literature & Pro-Con Challenge). We will be offering competition in 17 different events at various levels of competition this year.

For our full invitation, please check the "Files for Download" section of our Speechwire page. Below are some specific points of interest for this year:

Some new & newer things this year:

-Mandatory Masks & Safety Measures: Because of the current health situation, we will be enforcing the NJ mask mandate in all schools and social distancing. All schools will be assigned tables in our cafeteria and gym, and all members from that school must remain at those tables throughout the day when they are not actively in their rounds. Coaches must be responsible for ensuring that schools do not intermingle in these larger areas. Competitors, students, judges, and coaches must also wear a mask at all times throughout the day, with the only exceptions being when people are actively eating or drinking. People who do not wear masks will be removed from the tournament and their school will be fined. If there is a medical mask exemption with documentation, that medical documentation must be sent to Katie Burke at kburke@rtnj.org by MONDAY, November 15, 2021.

-Food: We will not be selling lunch at our tournament this year. Students should ensure that they bring a bagged lunch for this tournament. Judges will be provided a light breakfast and a lunch as our thank you for volunteering during our tournament.

-Asynchronous Options: We are offering both Children's Literature and Pro-Con Challenge this year asynchronously! For these events, more directions will be located under "Files for Download." Students should create their videos and upload them to YouTube with an "unlisted" link. More directions for creating an "unlisted" link can be found here (https://sites.uab.edu/apex/for-mph-students/youtube-video/). Coaches should make sure that videos are accessible (and able to be opened) through their link, and that links are for the correct videos. These YouTube links are due by 6:00pm on MONDAY, November 15, 2021.

-Parliamentary Debate: We are offering this exciting and dynamic form of debate for the second time. In this event, teams of 2 students compete in a more parliamentary-style debate. To find out more, please check out the NYPDL’s informational literature on the event either online or in our provided materials. This style uses impromptu motions only, meaning that no outside preparation is allowed or required. Teams will be given 15 minutes to prep. Because of the ease of understanding of this event, we will be using the PF judge pool for this event, though other judges may be asked to help out if necessary. Therefore, please add your judges to the PF pool accordingly.

-E-Ballots for All Events: We will continue to use e-ballots this year. Once again, we need you, the coaches and moderators, to ensure clear communication to your judges about this. Please ask ALL judges, both speech and debate, to ensure that they have access to a device that they can complete their ballots on, as well as any necessary equipment (i.e., chargers). We recommend using a laptop or computer for e-ballots, and if possible use two screens. E-ballots are incredibly easy and intuitive – they have been used to great effect at many local and national tournaments. We will again train any new judges on the process the morning-of. We would again like to stress that all events will be using e-ballots this year.
