Welcome Coaches

After taking some time off from hosting in-person tournaments for no specific reason, I thought 2021 would be a good year to return to form!  This year, the DGS Novice Tournament will be back in person on Saturday, November 13th (you better believe I’m knocking on wood and crossing all my fingers).  I’m am especially excited to invite you back to DGS, because it has been through a massive renovation.  This year, there is plenty of room for social distancing!

ENTRY:  You may enter two competitors in each event for a total of 28 entries.  Students can enter 1 or 2 events.  No student is allowed to be triple entered. You may request extra entries, but they will only be admitted if space permits.  Preference will be given to those schools that make the same available to us.  Schools with extra entries will need to pay an extra fee and will need additional judges.

JUDGES: 

One (1) judge for each five (5) entries or fraction thereof (maximum of 6).  If you have extra entries, you will need extra judges.  You are responsible for the number of judges needed based on your original entry.

FEES:

Entry fee of $150.00 per school for up to two entries, if you receive a third entry, in any event, the fee will be 200.  This fee will be applied to all schools that have any third entries.

LIMITED PREP RULES

• RADIO: Students should write a script with news no older than 24 hours old.

• EXTEMP Prep will be 45 minutes but we will prep 3 times. This should help get novices adjusted! Internet can be used! Wifi will be provided. We will be using paper draw (NOT DIGITAL)

• IMP: We will be using paper draw (NOT DIGITAL)

JUDGING

We are using e-ballots with paper ciritques. This is the best of both worlds as it will get judges used to using speechwire digitally, but also they will be able to easily write critiques. Judges should have a device they can use to enter their ranks at the end of the round

AWARDS: 

Individual awards will be given to first, second and third-place finishers. (Maybe 4th if we have enough prizes!) No ties will be broken and there will be no team trophies.  Medals will be mailed to schools!
