Dear Speech Coaches:

 

The Burbank Cinematic Universe is a Burbankian speech franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superspeaker events produced by Reavis High School, and we are thrilled to host an in-person tournament on Saturday, November 20th, 2021.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL BE SENDING ANOTHER UPDATE OUTLINING ALL COVID-19 PROTOCOLS/POLICIES AND DETAILS CLOSER TO THE TOURNEY DATE.

 

1. The tournament schedule will consist of three prelim rounds and a triple judged final round (EXT + RS will be double judged one round).

2. Both Radio and Extemp will prep once for prelims and once for finals.

3. Teams can enter up to four competitors in each event. Please reach out if you need extra entries.

4. Ideally, we will hold as many final rounds as possible (Varsity, JV, + Novice OR Varsity, Next-in, + JV/Novice). Please designate the level of competition when registering each individual.

4. Please hire 1 judge per every 6 entries; judges must be at least THREE YEARS out of high school (college junior).

  

 

Please remind judges to write student centered critiques. We need to give constructive feedback, so a comment like "you could use more vocal variety when the emotion heightens" is preferable to "your vocal variety is non-existent; the lack of emotion is awkward in a bad way." Valuable feedback helps the students grow as competitors and speakers, and that is what matters most.
