2nd Annual CPHS Debate Tournament

Saturday, November 6, 2021 - LIVE!

Structure:

  • Policy, LD, PF, WSD, and Congress will be offered and will follow IHSFA (ISSDA?) rules.
  • Novice & Varsity Divisions
  • Three preliminary rounds and a final round
  • Morning and afternoon Congress sessions

Speechwire Registration:

  • Submit entries by Monday, November 1
  • Drops may be made until 11:59 PM on November 5
  • Text/email drops on the morning of to 219-808-8977 or randerson@cps.k12.in.us 

Policy:

  • Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States.
  • Novice Case Limits:
    • Substantially strengthen federal surveillance and standards for lead in drinking water.
    • Substantially limit the use of hydraulic fracturing by energy companies in the United States.
    • Substantially strengthen federal standards for agriculture-related runoff into lakes and streams.
    • Substantially increase the protection of wetlands in the United States.

Lincoln-Douglas:

  • Resolved: A just government ought to recognize an unconditional right of workers to strike. 
  • Same for Varsity & Novice

Public Forum:

  • Resolved: Increased United States federal regulation of cryptocurrency transactions and/or assets will produce more benefits than harms.

World Schools Debate:

  • This House would end the use of for-profit prisons by federal and state governments.
  • Rounds 3 & 4 will be impromptu

Congress:

  • Legislation
    • AM Session - Bills #1 & 4
    • PM Session - Bills # 2, 3 & 5 (Bill #5 time permitting in Varsity) 
  • Varsity will elect presiding officers from within the house with competitors voting for best P.O.  
  • Please email hmarek@cps.k12.in.us directly if you have someone willing to PO a novice house.  

Judges:

  • Please bring one judge for every 4 debaters or fraction thereof (3 PF teams=2 judges).
  • Congress=1 judge per 5 entries/fraction thereof.
  • All judges should be ready to judge any event.
  • We will be using online balloting via Speechwire

Food & Beverage:

  • Concessions available for competitors in the cafeteria
  • Potluck and pre-packaged options available for judges and coaches in lounge area

COVID Information:

  • Masks are optional
  • Social distancing is recommended when possible
  • Sanitizer & wipes available in all classrooms
  • Sanitizer available in public areas
  • Teams will assemble in the cafeteria
