Northwest Florida Civics and Debate

You are cordially invited to the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative Northwest #1, to be held in person on Saturday, October 23, 2021. This tournament will be hosted by Niceville High School, 800 E John Sims Pkwy, Niceville, FL 32578.
The FCDI Northwest #1 offers an OPEN division of middle school and high school competition in Congressional Debate, Dramatic Performance, and Duo Interpretation, and both VARSITY and NOVICE divisions in Lincoln Douglas Debate. All Florida schools are welcome to compete in this tournament.
There will be TWO rounds of competition. The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. Central Time. CONGRESS SESSIONS WILL BE ONE HOUR EACH. The full schedule can be found in the Schedule tab on the registration page for the tournament.
SPEECHWIRE REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. All entries should be final at this time.
Please plan to arrive at Niceville High School no later than 9:15 a.m. the morning of the tournament to check-in. Fees should be brought to check-in.
EVENTS and DIVISIONS: We offer open, novice, and varsity divisions. If numbers allow, we will offer separate divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Middle School Champion Award in addition to the usual awards.

LEGISLATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
All legislation must be submitted no later than Friday, October 8, at 3 p.m. It should be emailed to Apryl Taylor at taylorfcdi@gmail.com. It can be either NCFL or NSDA format.
DEBATE TOPICS:
Lincoln Douglas Debate: We are using the September/October NSDA topic - Resolved: The member nations of the World Trade Organization ought to reduce intellectual property protections for medicines.
JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.
The judge ratio for this tournament is 1 judge for every two debate entries; 1 judge for every 5 speech/interp/congress entries.

CONCESSIONS: Concessions (pizza, snacks, drinks, etc.) will be available for purchase with cash only.
