Welcome to DebateBroward High School Novice Championships on May 14th at Fort Lauderdale High School!
Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN.
Remember, this tournament is for NOVICE debaters in their first year of high school debate. Veteran debaters with at least 150 NSDA points are welcome to attend and judge.
Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on Tuesday, May 10th at 4 pm. At that time as many students will be released from the waitlist as judge numbers allow. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 7 am on Saturday, May 14th. Any changes after that, please text Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event.
You MUST arrive AND check-in for the tournament between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. If you or your students arrive after 8:00 am you will run the risk of being dropped from the tournament!
For PF, the April topic will be used - Resolved: Japan should revise Article 9 of its Constitution to develop offensive military capabilities.
For LD, the March/April topic will be used - Resolved: In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy.
For Policy Debate, the 2021-22 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States. In addition, at the Novice Championship all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/2021-2022-novice-packet
Extemp topic areas will be "Education", "Voting Rights", "Climate Change", "Workers' Rights", and "Food Security".
Impromptu topic areas will be "Happiness", "Chinese Proverbs", "Famous Quotes", "Jobs", and "Speech & Debate".
Congress legislation was emailed to coaches and is posted here under the "Files for Download" section.
More information will be distributed as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions.
