We've reached the end! Our eighth and final AST of the year will be on Thursday, April 7th at Northeast High School.

Remember, our ASTs are for NOVICE debaters in their first year of high school debate. Veteran debaters with at least 150 NSDA points are welcome to attend and judge.

Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN.

Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on TUESDAY, April 5th at 4pm. At that time as many students will be released from the waitlist as judge numbers and room space allow. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 12pm on April 7th, the day of the tournament. Any changes after that, please text Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and their event.

You MUST arrive for the tournament between 1:30pm and 2:15pm. If you arrive after 2:15 you will get caught in Northeast's dismissal traffic and could miss/forfeit the first round.

Everyone will stay in the cafeteria until Northeast has dismissed and round 1 is ready to begin. The Northeast Media Center will be under construction, so both judges and competitors will be in the cafeteria for this one.

For PF, the APRIL topic will be used - Resolved: Japan should revise Article 9 of its Constitution to develop offensive military capabilities.

For LD, the MARCH/APRIL topic will be used - Resolved: In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy. (Please note that we are NO LONGER using the Novice "Civil Disobedience" topic).

For Policy Debate, the 2021-22 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States. In addition, at the ASTs all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/2021-2022-novice-packet

Extemp topic areas will be "International Trade" and "Sports", and Impromptu topic areas will be "Leadership" and "Song Quotes".

Congress legislation for the spring semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The spring legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which months, with 4 bills per month. Per usual, chambers might not debate all 4 bills if time does not allow.

More information may be sent out as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions.
