Welcome back to in-person ASTs! Our seventh AST of the year will be on Tuesday, March 15th at Northeast High School.

Remember, our ASTs are for NOVICE debaters in their first year of high school debate. Veteran debaters with at least 150 NSDA points are welcome to attend and judge.

Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN.

Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on FRIDAY, March 11th at 4pm. At that time as many students will be released from the waitlist as judge numbers and room space allow. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 12pm on March 15th, the day of the tournament. Any changes after that, please text Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and their event.

You MUST arrive for the tournament between 1:30pm and 2:15pm. If you arrive after 2:15 you will get caught in Northeast's dismissal traffic and could miss/forfeit the first round.

Everyone will stay in the cafeteria until Northeast has dismissed and round 1 is ready to begin. The judge lounge will be in the media center.

For PF, the MARCH topic will be used - Resolved: In the United States, the benefits of increasing organic agriculture outweigh the harms.

For LD, the MARCH/APRIL topic will be used - Resolved: In a democracy, a free press ought to prioritize objectivity over advocacy. (Please note that we are NO LONGER using the Novice "Civil Disobedience" topic).

For Policy Debate, the 2021-22 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its protection of water resources in the United States. In addition, at the ASTs all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/2021-2022-novice-packet

Extemp topic areas will be "Europe" and "Equal Rights", and Impromptu topic areas will be "Spring" and "Luck".

Congress legislation for the fall semester was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The fall legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which months, with 4 bills per month. Per usual, chambers might not debate all 4 bills if time does not allow.

More information may be sent out as the tournament approaches. Please let your mentor know if you have any questions.
