Dear I.E. Speech Team Head Coach:

 

The Willowbrook High School Individual Events Speech Team cordially invites you to participate in our fifteenth annual Willowbrook Invitational on Saturday, December 11, 2021.  As a coaching staff and team, we are extremely pleased to offer another tournament. Though we are still not out of the woods regarding this virus, we will plan to have an in-person, masked tournament unless the IHSA (more importantly, the IDPH and ISBE, give us guidance. Since we all know that our speakers are sick half of our season, being masked maybe won't be a horrible option...Nonetheless, we will see what guidance is provided for Speech, and we will follow that. With the current rise in numbers, we will adjust and still host if we have to revert to an online model. If so, we will use Zoom for the entire tournament, for NSDA Campus was a nightmare. 

 

Once again, this will be a warm, inviting tournament for all participants.

 

Entries, Fees and Judges:  

Teams may enter 1, 2, or 3 speakers per event.  Remember, at this point in the season, all speakers will be competing at the same level; in other words, we will not delineate between Novice and Varsity speakers.  The entry fee is $150.00 for 32 or less entries.  We will need 1 judge per 5 entries.  Therefore, if you have a full team (32 entries), then we will need a maximum of 6 judges.  If you have more than 32 entries, then please have the check made for $200.00, and bring 7 judges. Please make checks payable to Willowbrook High School, c/o Brett Blair, IE Speech Team.  Once checks are received, refunds will not be made.  Receipt of your information will be confirmed via e-mail/SpeechWire, so please make sure you have your preferred e-mail address in SpeechWire.

 

Schedule:

7:00-7:45 Registration

7:30 Extemp/Radio Prep in Library

8:00 Round I all events except Radio

8:15 Round I Radio only

9:30 EXT & RS Prep Round II

10:00 Round II all events except for Radio

10:15 Round II Radio only

11:30 Round III  All events (RS & EXT choose RI or RII speech)

1:00 EXT & RS prep for finals

1:30 Finals (all events except for Radio)

1:45 Radio: Finals

3:00 Awards in the Auditorium

 

Rules:

Extemp & Radio will prep Rounds I & II.  Extemp and Radio speakers may choose either Round I or II speeches to present in Round III.   We will follow IHSA rules on all other events.  Please e-mail or upload Extemp and Impromptu topics.  We will not enter your extemp or impromptu speakers if we do not have topics.

 

No speaker can triple enter! I know that we did allow for triple entries last year, but much more difficult for the speakers to manage when in person. Therefore, we will disqualify ALL scores for that speaker, if we recognize a speaker in more than two IHSA events.  

 

Awards:

Medals will be given to 1st through 6th place speakers and ribbons to finalists.  Team awards will be based on preliminary rounds from first to sixth place.  The team awards will be based on each team's top two competitors in each event in preliminary rounds.  

 

 

Lunch:

Lunch will be provided. Pizza and other treats!! Again, we will follow the guidance from the state, and I will work on spreading teams out not only in the cafeteria but within the foyer (the space in front of our Auditorium) as well.
