Dear colleagues,

 

You are cordially invited to the 4th Annual STRIVE Prep Speech Showdown! This speech-only competition will be held at STRIVE Prep-RISE High School on Saturday, November 6th. This tournament is a collaboration of the STRIVE Prep-RISE and the STRIVE Prep-SMART forensics programs. Please see below for COVID procedures and tournament logistics.

 

Tournament Highlights:

 

The Showdown is a NIETOC Bid tournament. We call it “I.E. Heaven”! 4 prelim rounds for all events and the chance to double or TRIPLE enter! 

For the 4th straight year, we’ll be recognizing the top “triathlete” of the tournament with a special (and very cool) “Triathlete Award” for the student who performs the best that day based off the number of times they appear in finals and their placement therein.

Events: HI, DI, POI, Poetry, Duo, INF, OO, Extemp, Impromptu

Schedule:

8:00-8:30am: Registration

8:30am: Opening Ceremony & General Meeting in Auditorium

9:00am: Round 1

10:30am: Round 2

Noon: Round 3

1:30pm: Round 4

3:00pm: Finals

4:30pm: Awards

Doubling/Tripling: Due to time, Extempers may only double enter, not triple enter.  All other students may triple enter. Extempers will be given the choice of IX or DX topics before draw. 

NIETOC: We are proud to be bid tournament to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC), also known as the Speech Tournament of Champions. Bids can be earned in the following events: HI, DI, Duo, POI, OO, INF, and Extemp. Both of our teams have attended this national tournament in May. If you have any questions about the tournament experience, we would be happy to answer them. NIETOC will take place this year at J. Dobie Frank High School in Houston, TX. Judges: We will be doing judges slightly differently, so please read carefully:

1. All schools are asked to bring 1 judge for every 8 entries. There is a $30 fee for every uncovered judge (note: NOT uncovered entry)

2. We ask that all schools register their judges ahead of time on Speechwire. This allows us to pair judges rounds ahead of time.

3. Because we can pair judges ahead of time, we will try our best to share individual judging schedules with your judges throughout the day, hopefully preventing judges from waiting around for hours if they won’t be receiving any more rounds! 

4. We will pay the judges you bring $10 a round. Just please guarantee they come!

The entry fee will be $10 per student, per event ($20 per Duo).

This tournament will be hosted at STRIVE Prep-RISE HS at 18250 E 51st Ave, Denver, CO 80249. We are conveniently located off Pena Blvd and Tower Rd. in Denver. 

COVID Procedures: 

COVID rules and procedures are subject to change as we approach the actual tournament date, however, teams should come prepared to have ALL individuals (competitors, coaches, judges, observers) wearing a mask at all times. The only exceptions that apply are while in an outdoor setting or while actively performing in front of a judge. (Ex: practicing in a hallway, observing your round, or judging is still a mask-on expectation). We will send further communication if these expectations change or evolve.
