NJSDL April Middle School Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a Middle School tournament in New Jersey. View manager contact information The New Jersey Speech & Debate League (NJSDL) and Long Valley Middle will host an online April Middle School Tournament open to all students in Grades 5 to 8. This tournament is open and is not limited to schools in New Jersey.
REGISTRATION Registration and judges are due by April 26 at 7:00 PM via the SpeechWire Website. Since there will be two asynchronous rounds of speech, please post links to unlisted YouTube videos for each speech student in SpeechWire by the registration deadline of April 26th at 7:00 PM. All entries without videos will be dropped at this time.
FEES A nominal entry fee of $5 per entry will be assessed. Checks for entry fees and judge fees should be made payable to NJSDL. Checks can be sent to:

EVENTS The following events will be offered:
FORMAT For Public Forum Debate and Parliamentary Debate, two rounds of competition will be held online on April 30th via the NSDA Campus video platform.
For Speech Events (Declamation, Original Oratory/Public Speaking, Prose, Poetry, and Memorized Interp), there will be two prelimanry rounds of asynchronous competition judged during the week followed by a synchronous third round and final rounds live via the NSDA Campus video platform on Friday, April 30th.
The first two preliminary speech rounds will be judged asynchronously between Tuesday, April 27 and Thursday April 29, 2021. All debate rounds and the live speech rounds will be judged on Friday, April 30, 2021.
TOPICS For Public Forum we will use the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) April Topic Resolved: The benefits of the International Monetary Fund outweigh the harms.
For Parliamentary Debate resolutions will be announced at the tournament. One round will focus on immigration and one round will focus on the environment.
RULES For all events we will use the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) Middle School rules. However, for typically memorized events, we will not disqualify any students who are not memorized. Judges will be instructed to take memorization into consideration when evaluating rounds and assigning ranks but we want to encourage participation.
