You are cordially invited to the Northwest Florida Civics & Debate Initiative #4 to be held on-line Wednesday, April 14, 2021. This is a 2 round tournament from 4:30-7:30PM CST.

We offer middle school and high school novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Monday, April 12 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

We will be using NSDA Campus for this tournament. Please check tech requirements, ask your IT folks to help, and test the platform well in advance of the tournament. You can find more information in the files to upload as well as visting this site: speechanddebate.org/campus-tech/

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the NSDA March/April 2021 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee universal child care.
  • Public Forum Debate-We will be using the NSDA April 2021 topic: Resolved: The benefits of the International Monetary Fund outweigh the harms.
  • Congressional Debate-Please submit legislation to Pauline Buis at buisp@okaloosaschools.com by Noon, Monday, April 5. Legislation will be released and posted in Files fr Download by Wed, April 7.
  • Extemporaneous Speaking-Topic Areas: Rd 1-US Energy Policy; Rd 2-International Organizations

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Dramatic Performance*
  • Duo Interpretation*
  • Informative Speaking
  • Oral Interpretation of Literature*
  • Original Oratory*

 

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Monday, April 12, 2021.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.
