==========================
Hello!

Registration for Nat Quals is opening today! The Virtual Tournament will take place April 9th and 10th, 2021. Registration closes April 2nd @ 5pm.

We have decided as a committee in order to keep the equity of competition at the focus of our efforts, to offer an Asynchronous Speech tournament, as well as a Live synchronous tournament for Extemp and Debate. We have not at this time decided if we will release the speech ballots to judges before the start of the Synchronous rounds. More information on that, and Link upload deadlines to come. We understand that this decision departs from what the NSDA is doing with speech in June, however after much discussion we believe ensuring that all students from Rocky Mountain South have a fair chance at entering the competition, is more important then practicing live rounds.

In terms of basic logistical information:
Double Entering:  Competitors can double enter.  The exceptions are: No double entering in two debate events and competitors cannot double enter in both Domestic and International Extemp.
We encourage you to bring as many competitors as you are allowed; that way we can try to reach the 20 entry threshold allowing us to qualify FOUR competitors to Nationals!

OO, INFO and INTERP Script proof.

We have decided that we need to have all script documentation uploaded to speechwire BEFORE the tournament begins. Due to the async nature of these events, not having access to these resources immediately in the event of a grievance could severely hold up the grievance process and thus the tournament as a whole. The Links for this upload will be forthcoming on speechwire. We will be following the NSDA requested formats this year in full to eliminate confusion.

OO/INFO
Coaches will need to upload a document for each competitor that has:
All quoted words underlined/highlighted and there should be a quoted word count at the bottom of each page and a total word count at the end of the speech. Please remember that there cannot be any more than 150 quoted words in the speech.  The speech should be signed by both the competitor and coach attesting to the fact that this is the student's original work and that the word count does not exceed 150 words.

Interp:
Coaches need to upload 2 documents:
A PDF that contains the final cutting performed by the student
A PDF that contains a photocopy or printed screenshot of every page of the original source from which any line of the cutting was taken.
Pages are to be placed in the order in which they are performed (e.g., if text from one page is used more than once within the cutting, that page should be copied again with those words highlighted and reinserted
where it is used in the cutting). Students are not required to photocopy or print pages that are not used in their cutting.
All words used from the script should be highlighted (any words/lines not used should be left unmarked).
Any word changes (to eliminate profane language) and/or additions (for transition) must be indicated clearly in ink. Failure to clearly indicate the addition of words will be subject to disqualification.

All of this should be uploaded to the speechwire website by April 6th at 6pm.

Judges: The burden of acquiring judges cannot fall on a few schools or a few individuals.  Everyone needs to help with this effort so please start finding judges now!  We do ask that any judges you do bring, have experience with judging and are not brand new to the activity. We want to run efficiently, but also fairly.

Schedule and much more information to come closer to the tournament.

Thank you,
The Rocky Mountain South Committee
