This is a High School tournament in Florida.

You are cordially invited to the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative All Regions to be held on-line Wednesday, March 31, 2021. This is a 2 round tournament from 5-7:30PM EST/4-6:30PM CST.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Monday, March 29 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

We will be using NSDA Campus for live events. Please check tech requirements, ask your IT folks to help, and test the platform well in advance of the tournament. You can find more information in the files to upload section or by visting this page: speechanddebate.org/campus-tech/

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the NSDA March/April 2021 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee universal child care.
  • Public Forum Debate-We will be using the NSDA March 2021 topic: Resolved: On balance, the benefits of creating the United States Space Force outweigh the harms.
  • Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking*-Topic areas: US Energy Policy and International Organizations
  • Impromptu Speaking-Prompts will be lines from US government primary documents (The US Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation)
  • Congressional Debate-Legislation should be submitted to Apryl Taylor at apryl.taylor@osceolaschools.net by NOON Friday, March 12.

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Declamation*
  • Dramatic Performance*
  • Duo Interpretation*
  • Informative Speaking
  • Oral Interpretation of Literature*
  • Original Oratory*
  • Program Oral Interpretation

 

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Monday, March 29, 2021.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
