This is a High School tournament in Florida.

You are cordially invited to SFCDI #4 to be held on-line Thursday, February 18, 2021. This is a 2 round tournament from 4-7PM.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE TUESDAY, FEB 16 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Jan/Feb 2021 topic: Resolved: States ought to ban lethal autonomous weapons.

 

  • Public Forum Debate-We will be using the Feb 2021 topic: Resolved: On balance, the benefits of urbanization in West Africa outweigh the harms.

 

  • Congressional Debate- Will be using bills/resolutions from a legislation packet that the tournament will provide.

 

  • Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking-Topic areas include - Biden Administration and China

 

  • Impromptu-Topics are Book Titles and Objects

 

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Declamation*
  • Duo Interpretation
  • Original Oratory
  • Program Oral Interpretation
  • Dramatic Performance* (Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation)

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
