REVIEW ALL CHSAA RULES! THIS IS REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT THIS YEAR!

  • Refresh yourself on the CHSAA rules for all events! Information on all rules can be found in the 2020-2021 CHSAA Tournament Handbook
  • NEW FOR 2021 -- PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE review the CHSAA Virtual Rules (sent from CHSAA in an email on 12/9/2021 from Sandra Williamson).

I really, really don’t want to have to disqualify students for rules violations. Make sure you and your students know and follow all the rules for this year!

RULES FOR ENTRIES:

  • Each team can enter up to FOUR entries per event.
    • An alternate can be submitted in events in which teams have filled their four spots.
      • This alternate will be entered onto the waitlist on SpeechWire--I will send you an email if your alternate is pulled in to compete as soon as it happens.
      • Alternates will be pulled randomly into competition if there are drops after the registration deadline.
        • For ASYNC event alternates, it is a VERY GOOD IDEA to have a video recorded and ready to go in the event that they are pulled in to replace a drop late in the week of the tournament.
      • Please enter names for your entries in SpeechWire; however, you may change names up until the first round has been scheduled--information in SpeechWire once round 1 has begun is considered final--please review your registrations carefully!
  • ASYNC VIDEOS -- NEW FOR 2021
    • Async video URL submission window: Monday, Feb. 15 - Tuesday, Feb. 23 @ 5 PM
      • Video URL MUST be submitted by Tuesday, Feb. 23 @ 5 PM to avoid CHSAA late registration fees
    • AUTHENTICATION STATEMENT:
      • ALL ASYNC VIDEOS MUST BE NEW RECORDINGS FOR REGIONALS (STATE will require NEW RECORDINGS, as well)
      • Competitors MUST include an authentication statement (either verbal or written on paper that they will hold up to the camera before beginning their performance)
        • STATEMENT: “My name is ______ and this is my [event] performance for the 2021 Region 2 State Qualifying tournament.”
      • Async videos will be previewed beginning Tuesday, Feb. 23  at 5 PM to Wednesday, Feb. 24 to ensure that:
        • Links have been provided
        • Links are valid and accessible
        • Performances meet event time limits (10 minutes + 30 second grace period)
If we find issues with any videos, coaches will be contacted and will have 24 hours to resolve the problem if they wish to do so.
    • Helpful Hints for ASYNC videos:
      • If you are entering a URL for a file stored in Google Drive, upload the video in .MP4 file format for the most universal accessibility of videos. Try to avoid uploading videos in .MOV format (the standard format for Apple devices such as iPhones or Macs), as PCs and Android devices don’t run Quicktime.
        • How to avoid compatibility issues:
          • Use on online video converter (such as https://convert-video-online.com/) to convert .MOV files to .MP4 files
          • Upload video to a YouTube channel (or other video hosting platform) as an unlisted video
  • DOUBLE ENTRY
    • NEW AS OF 2019:
      • Expanded double entry options for the Regional Qualifying Tournament: Students may enter a maximum of two events at the Regional Qualifying Tournament, but may choose to enter two “A wave” (Friday) events or two “B wave” (Saturday) events or one “A wave” event and one “B wave” event with the following restrictions:
        • Students entered in National or International Extemporaneous Speaking may not enter an additional A Wave (Friday) event, but may double enter in a B wave (Saturday) event. No student may enter both extemps.
        • Students in Public Forum, Cross Examination and Lincoln-Douglas Debate may not double enter in an additional B Wave (Saturday) event but may double enter in an A wave (Friday) event.  No student may enter more than one debate event.
        • Students must still complete the Double Entry form prior to their first round of competition.
      • DOUBLE ENTRY FORM: The participation of each student is limited to a maximum of two events at the Regional Qualifying tournament. The student may participate in only one event at the State Tournament. The student and his/her coach must decide prior to the first round of the Regional Qualifying meet which event to enter at the State Tournament should the student qualify in both. This decision must be identified on the Double Entry Form (page 44 and posted under “Files for Download”) and submitted to the Regional Tournament Director PRIOR TO THE FIRST ROUND OF THE REGIONAL QUALIFYING MEET. (TOURNAMENT HANDBOOK pg. 45 [pg. 48 of PDF])
        • NEW FOR 2021: Double Entry Forms will be submitted via a Google Form (link to come)
        • Students who double-enter will need to complete a doubling form prior to the beginning of the tournament. Though they can qualify in both events, they must pick ONE event to compete in at State.
        • *Doubling forms will determine which event a student will compete in at State if that student DOUBLE QUALIFIES at our Regional tournament. If a student qualifies in one event and is an alternate in another, the doubling form does not apply, as they only QUALIFIED in one event.  If alternates are pulled in to compete at State in the event that the already-qualified student is an alternate in, that student would be skipped, as they will already be competing at State in the event they qualified in.
  • OO/INFO MANUSCRIPTS: OO and Info are different events, and therefore students who double-enter in both events should be performing two distinct speeches.
    • You will enter titles/topics on SpeechWire as part of the online registration process.
    • NEW as of 2020: You should have the ability to upload manuscripts files on SpeechWire.
      • Failure to upload manuscripts on time will result in late registration fees assessed by CHSAA.
      • If you have issues uploading manuscripts, a backup submission through a Google Form will be available.
  • INTERP:
    • You’ll need to enter titles and authors of ALL interp selections into SpeechWire as part of the online registration process.
    • HAVE ALL ORIGINAL SOURCES FOR ALL INTERP PIECES ON HAND AT THE TOURNAMENT! If a piece's validity is questioned, it is in your student's best interest to have it with you so that we can confirm that it meets CHSAA rules.
  • FEES:
    • $13 per student per event
      Please send payment to:
           CHSAA
           Attn: Sandra Williamson
           14855 E. 2nd Ave.
           Aurora, CO 80111
NEW in 2020: Ensure that CHSAA receives your payment within two weeks following our regional tournament to avoid a late fee of $25. That's March 12th for our region.
    • Drop Fee:  The drop fee for CHSAA Tournaments is equal to the registration fee.  Drops made after Friday, February 19, 2021, 3:30 PM MST, do not reduce your team’s entry fee.  Drops noted on the regional director’s report will be invoiced to your school by CHSAA the Monday after the regional event. (Example: A student drops out of an Individual event: a drop fee of $13.00 would need to be paid)
  • DEBATE TOPICS:
    • LD  (Jan/Feb 2021)
Resolved: States ought to ban lethal autonomous weapons.
    • PF  (Feb 2021)
