Dear Speech Coaches,

 

Crofton High School is hosting the Crofton Speech Invitational IN-PERSON on Saturday, February 20.

 

We will once again use SpeechWire services to schedule the meet.  You can log on to www.speechwire.com to confirm that you are attending and put in your entries.  Please submit your entries by Friday, February 12 at 4pm.  Final entries will be due by Wednesday, February 17 at 4 p. m.  PLEASE CONFIRM ON SPEECHWIRE THAT YOU ARE ATTENDING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

 

We will only have a varsity division.  Four entries per event will be accepted, but because of the tight schedule, competitors in EXTEMP MAY NOT be triple entered.  This causes too many problems with the schedule and we have too many kids who need to get back for basketball games that evening.  This will be strictly enforced this year.

 

Entry fees will be $8 per individual and group entry.  Please provide one judge for every 6 entries or portion thereof.  A school will be charge $60 for every uncovered judge's spot.  There will be NO refund for drops and NO refund if the number of judges you require drops as well.  We hire judges and make arrangements based on the number of entries we start with, not with how many we end up with.  ALL JUDGES MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR FINALS.

 

The format of the meet will be two rounds with finals. We will begin at 8 a. m. We will have an in-person awards ceremony; however, we will just be announcing the results and recognizing medalists as they stand in their home bases in the gym.  Medals will be given to coaches in their packets along with ballots and score sheets at the conclusion of the awards ceremony. 

 

Lunch options and concessions will be available for students to purchase. There will also be a fully-stocked lounge for judges, coaches, and bus drivers.

 

COVID PRECAUTIONS:  You will be assigned a homeroom area in our gym.  You will be assigned a specific area and kids will be asked to not congregate and to social distance.  Masks must be worn by all competitors, coaches, and judges, unless they are directly competing.  NO SPECTATORS WILL BE ALLOWED.  Only competitors, coaches, and judges will be allowed at the meet.  Concessions will be limited to prepackaged areas and must be eaten in designated areas.  We are going to try to use e-ballots this year to allow for less congregation.  More information will be emailed about those.  We will have more protocols that will be used and we will send those to you before the meet.
