Hello Speech Coaches!
We are excited to invite you to the first ever Blaze Invitational hosted by Burnsville High School! Our team has grown quickly and with strength in the last few years, due in no small part to the speech community here in Minnesota. Our team’s philosophy can be summarized in one phrase, our motto: Have Something to Say. What this phrase means to our team is that each person has something important to say and deserves to have their voices be heard. In accordance with this philosophy, our tournament has been designed to promote the power of young voices. We know you have many choices in tournaments and thank you for participating in ours. Our team was started to grow and support the speech community and your participation allows us to continue to accomplish those goals.
Keeping in mind our team philosophy as well as the online nature of current speech tournaments, we have decided to make a few unique decisions to our tournament format this year. We will run four prelim rounds with no final round. This decision was made to ensure that all competitors are able to have their voices heard as much as possible while still maintaining a competitive atmosphere that will prepare them for future qualifying tournaments. We will be splitting between varsity and novice rounds.
For awards, we will be following the lead of other tournaments in our community by forgoing physical awards. Instead, we will make a monetary donation to a charity of their choice for our top placing students. This gives competitors a unique opportunity to quite literally have their voices affect change in the world. We will recognize top students in both varsity and novice categories.
