Greetings Coaches,
I am pleased to invite you and your team to Bishop Dwenger's Del Nelson Memorial Tournament on February 6th. This will be a synchronous tournament.
If competitors are using their school WiFi, please test NSDA Campus over the school network prior to the tournament. Your Tech Department will need
to whitelist jitsi.org in order to make this happen. Be sure to test NSDA Campus through your Speechwire Account
Students must have an active Speechwire Account
Times: Extemp Draw will be at 9 am with 1st round extemp starting at 9:30 am. All OTHER events start at 10 am.
Entries: Entries are due by TUESDAY, February 2nd at 8pm. After that, only name changes and drops will be accepted. All registration will be done through Speechwire.com. You may e-mail me with late adds which I will only honor if it does not require the addition of another section. Please email me with last minute drops at cchenowith@bishopdwenger.com
Doubling: Discussion may not double. Extempers may double in all events other than discussion, broadcasting, and the alternate extemp. Radio contestants may double, but should report to radio first. Tripling is permitted in STORYTELLING only. All IHSFA rules apply.
Judges: Please bring one judge for every five entries or fraction thereof (6 entries = 2 judges). Please submit judges by the Thursday morning before the tournament.
Rounds: All events will have three preliminary rounds and a final.
Divisions: Only Varsity will be offered at this tournament.
Caps: Each team is permitted 6 entries per event. Each team is also limited to a maximum of 40 entries overall. After we have reached our maximum capacity we will no longer be able to accept entries. Extra non-sweeps entries will be permitted as space allows.
Broadcasting:
More information about broadcasting will be provided the Monday evening prior to the tournament.
Round 1 = 5 Min News Program
Round 2 = 2 Min Editorial: Should Monday after Super Bowl be a National Holiday with no school/work?
Round 3 = Repeat Round 1
FINAL = 7 min blend of News Program and Editorial to be combined as student sees fit
Discussion:
Artifacts will be posted on the Monday prior to the meet. Questions will be given to competitors once the round begins.
Impromptu Topics:
New IHSFA Rules will be in effect and used by all judges. Students will have 7 minutes total speaking time. They may prep and speak for as long as they wish within their 7 minutes. Please tell your judges and competitors about this new format. In order to better prepare for Sectionals, WE WILL RERUN ANY ROUND THAT FAILS TO IMPLEMENT THESE NEW RULES FOR ALL COMPETITORS!

Storytelling:
Students select a story that would be appropriate for young children and tell the story as if presenting to that audience. This event is five minutes. Students may use a chair. Manuscripts are not permitted. Typically a theme is given, but I have opted to forego this in the hopes of encouraging more competitors to enter the event. Please see the link below for more details.

EXTEMP:
Students will draw before 1st and 3rd round.
FINALS:
We will have a final round for the top 6 competitors in each event.
Awards: Top 5 Teams will be recognized. Sweepstakes points will be awarded on the 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. No ribbons or trophies will be distributed. An awards video will be available after the meet.
