You are cordially invited to Gulf Coast/Northwest Combined FCDI #2 to be held on-line Wednesday, January 27, 2021. This is a 2 round tournament from 5-8PM EST or 4-7PM CST.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE Monday, January 25 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Jan/Feb 2021 topic: Resolved: States ought to ban lethal autonomous weapons.
  • Public Forum Debate-We will be using the Jan 2021 topic: Resolved: The National Security Agency should end its surveillance of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.
  • Congressional Debate-We will provide legislation for this tournament. The packet can be found in the Files for Downloads tab. There will be one 2 hour session with a 15 minute break.
  • Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking*-Both rounds will focus on Diversity and Inclusion. Rd 1 will focus on domestic issues; round 2 will focus on international issues.
  • Impromptu Speaking-Topics will be quotes focusing on diversity and inclusion.

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Declamation*
  • Original Oratory*
  • Oral Interpretation* (Round 1 will be poetry. Round 2 will be prose. Please upload the correct videos.)
  • Dramatic Performance* (Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation)

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Monday, January 25 , 2020.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.
