Dear Speech Coaches:

We are embarking on a new and exciting adventure of a speech season!  That is why we have rewritten the 2021 Worthington Trojan Tournament Information!  All Junior and Senior High students are welcome to our 3 round virtual, synchronous tournament that will be using Speechwire and NSDA Campus. Only duos will be asynchronous and will need to submit a video link.  If you have a non-draw competitor who cannot complete synchronously, please let us know and we will TRY to accommodate.

REGISTRATION & FEES

You may enter as many students as you would like.  You will need 1 judge for every 6 competitors or fraction thereof.  We will not have judges for hire.  Double entries are allowed in all events except Discussion, Ex. Reading, Ex. Speaking, and Storytelling.

Speechwire registration deadline is Wednesday, February 3^rd at 3:00 pm.  At that time, all judges will be locked.  Changes can be made to a team’s entry without cost until Saturday, February 6^th at 7:00 AM.  After this point drops will be allowed, but not be refunded.  Adds will be allowed at the discretion of the tournament manager.

There is a $10 team fee to help offset the cost of NSDA Campus.

AWARDS

This year we will have ribbons for 1^st-6^th in each category with blue and red ribbons for those that were close to the top six.

 

DRAWS

We will draw on Speechwire for Rounds 1 & 2.  Please have your students repeat one of those selections for Round 3.  We will be using all poems and cuttings from Zero, Four, and Six in Extemp. Reading, and the first 10 stories in Storytelling. 

 

DISCUSSION

Tasks will be sent out via email to coaches on Monday, February 1^st.  Please distribute them to your students.

 

LIVE.SPEECHWIRE.COM

All students and judges will need a live.speechwire.com account.  Please set that up before Saturday morning.  Have everyone log in to their account to verify that their account works.

For students, they should be able to log in and the NSDA Campus room should be right there for them to enter.

For judges, they will need an electronic that is not a smart phone (tablet or laptop).  When they log in they will be given their ballot, as well as a link to the NSDA Campus room.  When the round starts please start the round on your ballot, that way the tab room will know that that section has started.  During the round, type your critiques in a text editor (i.e. Microsoft Word, Google Docs).  When the round finishes, please fill out your ballot and submit it.  Then you can go back in and add your critiques by clicking ‘edit comments.’  When submitting critiques, simply copy and paste from your text editor.  Make sure all critiques are entered before the end of the tournament.
