Welcome to the annual New Prague Middle School meet - But Virtual!

There will be 3 rounds of competition and no finals, beginning at 3:45.  The big change, of course, is our new virtual world.  Even though we all long for the day we can once again meet and compete in person, there are a few advantages to the virtual world...no need for transportation expenses, no need to plan food, no concerns about releasing students early from class OR worrying about getting them home at a decent time. The catch is, you may want to have your students performing in your own school building, so you will need to reserve spaces at your own end.

SCHEDULE:

2:45-3:15

3:45              Round 1

5:00              Round 2

A little extra time is planned before Round 3 to allow for a supper break.

6:30              Round 3

7:45              Awards

ENTRIES:

The fee is $6.00/entry, including duo.  If you have any double-entries, it will be on you and the student to make it work.  We have a fairly tight schedule, so there isn't much wiggle room.

Entry deadline:

Please submit your initial entries by 3 pm Monday, February 8.  Fees will be set at midnight Tuesday, February 9, with the sole addition of any adds made afterwards.  Please make adds/drops throughout the week when you know of them.  PLEASE make any last-minute changes on Speechwire BEFORE 3:15  on Thursday afternoon.

Platforms:

We hope to run all events synchronously (live) on NSDA Campus with the exception of Duo Interpretation, which will be run asynchronously (pre-recorded). If you have a student in a synchronous category who cannot compete live, please let us know. We will try to accommodate an asynchronous student in a synchronous category. For Duo, we will make a final determination approximately 2 weeks before the tournament whether students will need to be recorded in separate rooms, or whether we can permit students in the same room during the recordings. This is largely based on current Covid numbers, and equity in competition between duos in the same location (at school, or siblings) vs duos who may not be able to compete together.

Special category-specific  instructions:

Discussion:

The discussion schedule suggests that we use Part I of the outline, which is the "Top-Down" issues of the outline.

DRAW EVENTS:

There will not be draws or prep periods. We will send lists of prompts/stories/chapters for students to choose from ahead of the tournament. Students in draw events should select from those lists and prepare a different performance each round.

JUDGES:

Your school must provide one judge for every six entries or fraction thereof.  Please indicate each judge's preference as you enter them on speechwire. If you forget, I will change their preference to EITHER.  Experienced senior high speech team members may be used as judges. Please keep in mind that small. tournaments may mean that we cannot keep judges clean, so your judges need to know they might have to judge a member of your team. Obviously we will work to keep that at a minimum.

ARRIVAL:

You must let us know by 3:15 on Thursday afternoon that you have all students and judges checked in, with no further changes to your roster. We will be site scheduling, and hope to have schematics posted and blasted out to everyone before 3:30.
