The Falcon Speech Team gleefully invites you to our first ever Falcon Festival on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
The competition will consist of 3 rounds WITH a final round in both Varsity and Novice.
EVENTS: All 13 MSHSL categories. Remember the time limits! Discussion is still one hour. All draw categories are 7 minutes; the remaining categories are 10 minutes. We would like to stick as close to these time limits to keep the tournament rolling as smoothly as possible.
REGISTRATIONS: Due by THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18 at 12:00 p.m. Remember all students must have their own SpeechWire accounts to register your students. If your student does not have an active account, they will be dropped from the tournament.
ENTRIES:  Students may double-enter in all categories. Triple-entries will not be allowed at this time.
FEES: $7.00 per entry, Duo counts as two entries ($14.00).  Double-entries are $7.00 per event.  Please make checks payable to Faribault High School.  Schools will be charged fees based on entries listed with your team as of February 18th, regardless of subsequent drops.  Any adds, if allowed, will be an additional charge ($7.00 per entry).
JUDGES: Each school should provide one judge for every six entries or fraction thereof. * As we get closer to the tournament, please be sure to set your judges as InterpPublic Address, or Either on SpeechWire.  Your judges do NOT need to be blocked from your entire team if they have a student competing; just block them from that student and student's category. Please make sure your judges have a SpeechWire account and have done a test run. Thank you!
Coaches, we trust you to be fair judging all of our students, so you do not need to block yourself from your team, but you may choose to do so.
This will make it much easier for judge placement and numbers. We hope to keep rounds to 6 speakers. Your judges will be busy!
EXTEMPORANEOUS READING and STORYTELLING draws:  We will draw from all of the stories and poems.
DISCUSSION: Tasks will be based on the outline "I. Global Wellness through a Domestic Lens"
IF WE ARE IN-PERSON: WIFI is allowed for Discussion and Extemp Speakers DURING rounds. We feel it's very helpful for novices in these categories. Access to the public WiFi will be provided at the tournament, if it is in-person.
LUNCHTIME will be based on each competitor's schedule, especially for draw categories. Make your students aware of the need to take a lunch break!
SCHEDULE: Please watch for a separate email confirming the schedule closer to the tournament. We may fine-tune based on the Speech Wire practice speech tournament. The anticipated schedule is up on SpeechWire.
*We plan to stay on schedule.  Judges will be asked to stop speakers at 8 or 11 minutes, depending on the category. Please prepare your speakers accordingly.

We are excited to see you and your team, and we are excited to do this!
