Dear Speech Coaches:

In many ways, we are stuck in a scenario where life is bizarre and sad, as if Thanos snapped his fingers at the end of Infinity War. The Smackdown is postponed, and the Tournament of Dreams will hopefully be back next year, and since we are hosting Sectionals with some likely synchronous rounds, we thought we'd run yet another tournament in preparation for it. And so, we have BCU: Endgame--a one-time January occasion hosted by Reavis.

**Triple Entries will be allowed at this contest.
**We ask that the judges you hire for this contest ONLY be slated to judge at this tournament.  Please do not hire a judge to judge two speech tournaments in the same day.

THE SCHEDULE
WEDNESDAY, 1/20

Head Coaches should enter hired judge info--name, email, + phone number--we have discovered that we can save a lot of time and confusion by contacting judges directly if we have questions.

Extemp/Imp prompts + Radio packets will be posted at 4:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, 1/21--> Video Links for PRELIMS due by 10 p.m. PLEASE double check the link. If you have a Google Drive link, the setting must be at "Anyone Can View."

Please title each video with the name and the event--NOT THE SCHOOL.

FRIDAY, 1/22

Rounds will be released to all judges by 5:00 p.m. Judges will have until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to judge their assigned rounds remotely. Please encourage your judges to complete the majority of their assigned prelims on Friday so we have time to iron out issues while preparing for the synchronous final round.

SATURDAY, 1/23

Because a round takes about an hour to judge, our tab room will be contacting anyone who hasn't opened at least one round by 8:15 a.m.

There will be a final round which will begin around 1:00p.m. Please make sure your hired judges know they need to be available. We would like to run a JV + Novice final with one judge each to give these competitors a chance to compete in front of a live audience.

Awards will take place around 2 p.m., and we will provide a link on SpeechWire. We hope to do a live broadcast, so you can host a Zoom with your team and watch/cheer together.

THE JUDGING

Each team will need one judge for every 6 competitors.

*IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your hired judges are at least three years out of high school (a college junior). Individuals who are 1-2 years out of high school will not be allowed to judge.

Please remind judges to write student centered critiques. Some kids have no other choice but to record from the dark basement of a house where there isn't a quiet moment. If we were in person, the space, lighting, sound, etc. would be equal, but that is not the case, and we need to be mindful of that. We need to give constructive feedback, so a comment like "you could use more vocal variety when the emotion heightens" is preferable to "your vocal variety is non-existent; the lack of emotion is awkward in a bad way." Everyone is doing the best with what they have, and valuable feedback helps the students grow as competitors and speakers, and that is what matters most.

THE JUDGING
Each team will need to furnish the following number of judges based on individual entries:
10 – 12 Entries:         2 judges
13 – 19 Entries:         3 judges
20 – 24 Entries:         4 judges
25 – 30 Entries:         5 judges
31+     Entries: 6 judges

**the number of judges you are required to provide will be based on your entry numbers at the beginning of the week, and not the numbers when we run the tournament on Friday.

THE RULES
We will follow I.H.S.A. rules for all individual events, and if this changes, we will keep everyone informed.

THE AWARDS
Team Sweeps include duets. We will send out a Google Form for Team Awards to come in the form of a donation to your chosen charity.

THE FOOD
Whatever is in your pantry or fridge.
