Dear Speech Coach:

 

Munster is proud to host a Winter Break novice tournament to act as a culminating activity for our novice season.  We will use the competition to celebrate our novices. You may bring up to 4 entries per event and a total of 40 entries on the sweeps team.  If you would like a non-sweeps team, please let me know. You may bring as many entries as preferred as long as you have the judges to support the entry. 

The tournament will be fully asynchronous. 

 

EVENTS:  DEC, HI, DI, PR, PO, POI, INFO, OO, EXT, IMP. DUO, BR, OP

 

 

FORMAT: 3 Preliminary Rounds-Asynchronous 

 

VIDEOS - Videos are due by Friday, December 18 at 11:59 PM.

 

JUDGES - Judges must be available to judge prelims between Saturday, December 19 at 9:00 AM Central and Sunday, December 20 at 7:00 PM Central.  Awards Video will be posted by Monday, December 21.   Due to the logistics, it is possible that a judge will judge students from their own school. We will try to avoid when possible. 

 

 

NOVICE DEFINITION:  Students with fewer than 100 NSDA points will be considered a novice.  Students with 100+ NSDA points may serve as a judge.

 

 

DOUBLE ENTERING/TRIPLE ENTERING: Contestants may double or triple. Only two events can count on the sweeps team.  The third event will be placed on the non-sweeps team.  

 

 

INDIVIDUAL SWEEPS:  Novices that enter three events will be eligible for individual sweeps recognition. 

 

 

DUO: Duos may either record in the same room, with masks on, or in separate rooms without masks. 

  

 

RADIO: Pre-written 5-minute newscast including, commercial, music lead-in & lead-out of the contestant's choice.

 

 

JUDGES: Please bring one qualified judge, willing to write informative critiques, for every five entries or fraction thereof.  

 

 

EXTEMP: Extemp topics will be taken from current events. Students will record one speech to be used for all three rounds.  Extemp questions will be released by December 14. 

 

 

PREPARED PROMPT:  Prepared prompt topics will be released by Monday, December 14.

 

 

 

 

AWARDS:

We will recognize the top 8 finishers and top 5 teams.  No ribbons/trophies due to current situation (pandemic=no fundraiser).  We plan to create a video to recognize their success.
