Welcome our DebateBroward Novice Championship! I hope you've had a positive experience this year and all of your students are ready for an incredible VIRTUAL competitive experience on Saturday, May 8th, 2021!
 
Please follow the instructions on this page to register your entries. Remember, each school may only initially enter FIVE students in all events except Congress, in which you can enter TEN.
 
Registration for NEW ENTRIES will close on WEDNESDAY, May 5th at 5pm. At that time as many students will be released from the waitlist as judge numbers allow. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 7am on May 8th. Any changes after that, please text Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event.
 
There will be 4 rounds of competition for all events except for Congress, which will have 2 rounds.
 
All competitors should be READY TO BEGIN by 8:15am. Rounds will begin at 8:30am SHARP. They will need to be logged in to both their SpeechWire account (set up by their coach), and Zoom (their Zoom login email should match the email address used for their SpeechWire account). Judges will also need to be registered with their email addresses in order to receive their eballots. Instructions for creating your students' SpeechWire accounts are:
  • FOR NEW STUDENTS (not yet on the roster)
    • Log in at www.speechwire.com/login
    • Click Team roster
    • Use the fields at the top of the page to add students.
    • If an email address is included, then the student will immediately receive an email with an activation link to activate their account.
  • FOR EXISTING STUDENTS (already on the roster)
    • Log in at www.speechwire.com/login
    • Click Team roster
    • Click the student you want to send an activation email to
    • Use the email field to add their email address, and when that is saved, the student will immediately receive an email with an activation link to activate their account.

For PF, the APRIL topic will be used - Resolved: The benefits of the International Monetary Fund outweigh the harms.
 
For LD, the MARCH/APRIL topic will be used - Resolved: The United States ought to guarantee universal child care. (Please note that we are NO LONGER using the Novice "Civil Disobedience" topic!)
 
For Policy Debate, the 2020-21 topic will be used - Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing. In addition, all teams MUST use the Novice Policy Packet. The Novice Policy Packet can be accessed at http://www.debatecoaches.org/2018-2019-novice-packet
 
Extemp topic areas will be "Freedom of Speech", "International Conflict", "Russia", and "Fake News", and Impromptu topic areas will be "Luck", "Women in History", "Summer" and "Champions".
 
Congress legislation was emailed to all coaches. It is also accessible electronically here under the "Files for Download" section. The legislation packet has designations for which bills will be debated in which round, with 2 bills per round. Per usual, chambers might not debate all 4 bills if time does not allow.
