Dear Speech Coaches:

Reavis High School is proud to host the South Suburban Conference Tournament on Saturday, December 18-19, 2020 (because let's face it, Friday night is part of the deal).

1. The tournament schedule will consist of three prelim rounds and a triple judged final round.
2. Teams can enter up to four competitors in each event.
3. A "Top Novice" award will be given to the novice with the highest score that DOES NOT make the final round.

THE SCHEDULE
WEDNESDAY, 12/16

Head Coaches should enter hired judge info--name, email, + phone number--we have discovered that we can save a lot of time and confusion by contacting judges directly if we have questions.

Extemp/Imp prompts + Radio scripts will be posted at 4:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, 12/17--> Video Links due by 10 p.m.

You must post the pre-recorded video links to SpeechWire for all competitors. PLEASE CHECK THAT LINKS ARE WORKING before submitting. Google Drive links must be set to "ANYONE CAN VIEW" in order to give access to judges.

Please title each video with the name and the event--NOT THE SCHOOL.

FRIDAY, 12/18

Rounds will be released to all judges by 5:00 p.m. Judges will have until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to judge their assigned rounds remotely.

SATURDAY, 11/21

Because a round takes about an hour to judge, our tab room will be contacting anyone who hasn't opened at least one round by 8:15 a.m.

There will be a final round which will begin around 12:30p.m. (using the same pre-recorded videos from prelims). Please make sure your hired judges know they need to be available.

Awards will take place around 2 p.m., and we will provide a link on SpeechWire. We had an almost successful live stream at the Burbank Cinematic Universe, so we will work out the kinks.

THE JUDGING
Each team will need to furnish the following number of judges based on individual entries:
10 – 12 Entries:        2 judges
13 – 19 Entries:        3 judges
20 – 24 Entries:        4 judges
25 – 30 Entries:        5 judges
31+ Entries:            6 judges

*IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your hired judges are at least three years out of high school (a college junior). Please remind judges to write STUDENT CENTERED critiques. Some students record from a basement in a home that houses 13 people; some are novice who have only received zoom coaching; some are dealing with issues on top of a pandemic. Be constructive; be helpful; be kind.

THE RULES
The South Suburban Conference Tournament will follow I.H.S.A. rules for all individual events; duets will not play a role in team sweeps.

THE AWARDS
Team Sweeps will be based on your ONE designated score in each event.  A SSC Red Award for Conference Champ and Conference Runner-up will be given.  The SSC Blue will award the same.  Top three individuals in each event will be recognized as “All-Conference” in your school. Additionally, a Top-Novice honor will be given as previously described.

THE FOOD
This depends on how well you stock your kitchen.
