Dear Faction,

 

Dwight D. Eisenhower High School is proud to host the 3rd Annual “Forensics Faction of the Stars” Speech Tournament on Saturday, January 30, 2021. We look forward to welcoming your stars…..virtually...in what we hope will be the LAST EVER REGULAR SEASON TOURNAMENT IN THIS “FORMAT.” With that being said…

 

THE FORMAT

-Hybrid: Asynchronous prelim rounds with a live final round in all 14 events using either NSDA Campus or Zoom.

 

THE RULES (and other miscellaneous facts)

-No triple entries. Any student found to have three entries will have one of their videos of your choice removed.

-Duets must record in separate locations. This also applies to the live final round. 

-Duets will count in team sweepstakes.

-Radio speakers do not need to have their camera on for prelims or finals.

 

THE LIMITED PREP STUFF

-Extemp and Impromptu prelim prep materials will be posted via Speechwire before the video deadline. There will be a live prep and final round for these events on Saturday.

-Radio prep copy will be posted via Speechwire before the video deadline. Radio speakers WILL NOT have a live prep on Saturday. Finalists should use their prelim script. 

 

THE DAY BY DAY SCHEDULE

-Monday, 1/25 (or earlier): All entries, judges, and list of seniors (see below) are submitted.

 

-Thursday, 1/28:

    7:00am:  All limited prep materials will be posted via Speechwire.

    7:00pm:  HARD DEADLINE for all video submissions in Speechwire. Check to see that they are operable!

    9:00pm:  Preliminary round assignments will be blasted to all judges.

 

-Saturday, 1/30:

    11:00am:  Deadline for judges to submit all preliminary rounds

    12:00pm:  Final round rosters posted on Speechwire

    12:00pm:  Extemp final round prep.

    12:30pm:  Live final rounds in all 14 events

    2:00pm:   Awards ceremony via Zoom

1-28 entries $175.00 

29-42 entries $225.00

43+ entries $250.00

THE JUDGING 

Each team will need to furnish the following number of judges based on individual entries:

10 – 12 Entries:        2 judges

13 – 19 Entries:        3 judges

20 – 24 Entries:        4 judges

25 – 30 Entries:        5 judges

31+ Entries:           6 judges

 

*I will input your number of judges needed on or before January 25. Please complete your hired judge information by the deadline.

 

*Please make your judges aware of the schedule for prelims and for finals. Be sure they know to ignore any templated start times for rounds. They can judge as soon as they get the blast. Also, please remind them they need to be available for final rounds on Saturday.

 

*Please make sure that your hired judges are at least two years out of high school (a college sophomore). Individuals who are one year out of high school will not be allowed to judge, and will need to be replaced by you. 

 

*Each team will be responsible for the number of judges based on their original entry number. Teams that are missing judges will be charged $50.00 per judge. This fee will need to be paid before your team will be allowed to compete. Contestant drops on the tournament day will not decrease your number of required judging assignments.  

 

THE AWARDS

Preliminary round scoring will determine team placement. The top two scoring contestants in each event will count toward your total team point tabulation. Individual ribbons will be awarded to all finalists and mailed to the head coach. Team plaques will be awarded to the top five schools, and be shipped to the attention of the head coach.

 

THE SENIORS

In trying to replicate the tradition that was started last year, we would like to acknowledge all of your competing senior students to celebrate their last regular season high school tournament. Please EMAIL ME those students’ names no later than Monday, January 25.
