Cannon Falls Invitational Speech Tournament

The Cannon Falls speech team will be hosting the CF Invitational Speech Tournament on Saturday, Feb 6th, 2021.  We look forward to hosting you for a day of exciting MSHSL speech competition.

Entry: NO DOUBLE ENTRY.  We are using www.speechwire.com with NSDA Campus to run a virtual tournament.  All events will be synchronous except Duo that needs to upload a video for asynchronous competition. Entry is open now.

Divisions: To create a great first weekend for all competitors, we are hosting both Varsity and Novice divisions.  A Novice competitor needs to meet the following criteria: 1) a first time ever competitor in speech (changing events does not count), and can be in any grade; and/or 2) any student in 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade who has never broken into a finals round at any previous varsity tournament.  We trust that coaches will only put students in the Novice category that will benefit from the protected competition.  Varsity and novice divisions will compete together for the three rounds; however, they will be separated for awards.

Entry Deadline: Wednesday, Feb 3rd, 2021, by 5 pm. Fees will be set at this time.

Entry Update: Please update your entry with any changes through out the week, including the morning of the tournament.  Please text Cal at 651-769-5194 as soon as possible the day of the tournament to confirm that the online entry is correct or to give drops/adds. The phone will be answered starting 7:00 am or before on tournament day.

Fees: Registration fee will be $7.00 per entry.  The online Invoice will be frozen at the deadline so you know the actual amount.  Make checks payable to Cannon Falls High School and mail to c/o Cal Vande Hoef Speech Team, Cannon Falls High School, 820 E Minnesota St, Cannon Falls, MN 55009.

Format : There will be three rounds and a final in each of the 13 MSHSL categories.  Novice finals are subject to entry numbers if there are small categories.  Students will draw for all rounds and from all topics. There will be awards for the top six place winners in each category, varsity and novice, plus honorable mentions based on the size of the category; awards will be sent as PDF for coaches to print or forward to honored students.  Tie breaking will follow MSHSL rules as set on SpeechWire.

Judges: Each school will be required to provide one judge for every six entries; please enter as much judge information as possible online.  Because having varsity and novice divisions will use more judges, it's very important that each school bring its required judges.
