Coaches-

Thank you for being patient. We hope that everyone is staying safe and sane. We are sure that everyone else is screaming "Stop the world, I want to get off!", so Conant is inviting you to join us for insanity-busting competition at the The Conant JV/Novice Comfy Classic will run in a hybrid setting Jan. 6 - Jan 9, 2021. Our tournament is meant for first and second year competitors that need more competition experience to grow. Attire for the day is usually comfy clothes, but this year, please have the kids wear Speech attire and comfy socks or slippers. We will also try to include a live final round for JV competitors this year (see below).

Here is some basic info:

Prelims:

Prelims for all levels will be asynchronous. If you are providing a DDA/HDA entry, please be sure that students are not performing in the same room while they are recording. Each entry should provide one recording that will be judged in all three prelim rounds. Radio packets and Ext/Imp topics will be sent to you on Tuesday, Jan 5th by 3pm. All recordings should be posted by Wednesday, Jan 6th by 8pm so that we can release the ballots to the judges. Judges should submit their ballots by 8pm on Friday, Jan 8th.

Finals:

If this works correctly, we will post the finals competitors Friday night by 10pm. DDA/HDA finals will run asynchronously again. All other competitors will perform live for the judges using Google Meets (maybe). Radio, EXT, and IMP will perform their recorded speech live for the judges Saturday morning as well. Finals rounds will start at 10am on Saturday, Jan 9th.  If a final round doesn't look like it's going to happen, all of this is null and void, but I will keep you posted.

Awards:

Awards will run on YouTube Saturday around 12pm. Both JV and Novices will be recognized. Please send me a picture of your school logo or mascot in case one of your competitors does win an award. In lieu of team trophies, we will make a donation in the names of the top 5 teams to charities of your choice.

Entries:

Your kids are welcome to double or triple enter. This is a great time to try out new events. Please make sure that you include each of those entries in the calculation for your judges. Please remember that this is usually a small tournament. You are welcome to have 3 entries per event, but if you bring 4, realize that your students will compete against one another. This may happen in other events as well, depending on the number of competitors. Also, your judges may end up judging a student from your school. Please remind them to be fair and impartial.

Judges:

Please provide one judge for every 6 entries. Since this is usually a tight tournament, please round up on your judge count (14 entries means 3 judges).

Fees:

1-7 entries = $50

8-14 entries = $100

15-28 entries = $150

29 and up = $175

If your team has limited access to funds this year, please contact me directly.

Updates will come before the holidays and during the week of the tournament.

Good luck everyone!
