8th Annual East Ridge Raptor Invitational Speech Tournament
Sponsored by Chuck Eckberg Realty Group of Re/Max Results!

Launch Tournament Website

WE'VE GONE VIRTUAL! The East Ridge Speech Team is excited to offer great competition and a fun atmosphere for competitors, coaches, and judges in this new and unusual format. Our VIRTUAL Invitational will feature all 13 MSHSL categories plus Program Oral Interpretation. Once again this year the East Ridge Raptor Invitational is an NIETOC bid tournament.

Tournament Format:
Live Synchronous and Hybrid Tournament using NSDA Campus Platform

We would like for all events to take place live using Speechwire and the NSDA Campus platform. However, we will make accommodations for students who have barriers due to technology, connection, or performance space and allow for asynchronous submissions by request. Duo will be asynchronous using pre-recorded videos.

Visit tournament website: SpeechRidge.com

Registration Deadline:
TEAM DEADLINE: Monday, February 8th at 5:00pm
ENTRY DEADLINE: Thursday, February 11th at 12:00pm
After that time, all fees will be locked and teams will still be responsible for fees of dropped students.

Scheduling:
We will be site scheduling this tournament, so please make all necessary changes to your registration on Speechwire until registration closes on Saturday morning. You may text any of your drops to Alex Carlson (651) 387-2914.

Entry Limits:
Since we will be competing online this year, there are no set entry limits. We may revisit this closer to the tournament.

Double and Triple Entries:
Students may double or triple enter with a few exceptions:
- Students in one draw category may enter one other non-draw category.
- Students in Discussion may not double enter in a draw category.

Entry Fees:
$7.00 per entry for all categories except Duo
$14.00 per entry for Varsity and Novice Duo
Checks can be made payable to "East Ridge Speech Boosters"

Judging Requirements:
Teams are required to bring 1 judge for every 6 entries. Additional judges will be available to hire for $75.00 if teams cannot meet this requirement. Please contact Alex Carlson as soon as possible if you anticipate you will need to hire a judge.

Tournament Divisions:
This tournament will offer both a Varsity and Novice division. A Novice is considered someone who is in their first year as a high school speech competitor. Varsity and Novice will compete separately in prelims and Novices will have their own final round.

Tournament Format:
There will be three preliminary rounds of competition followed by a Final consisting of Varsity students who ranked 1-7 in prelims and a Next-In Final consisting of Varsity students who ranked 8-14 in prelims. There will also be a Novice Final consisting of the top 7 ranked Novice students.

Awards:
We will offer our Raptor Head trophies to students this year. Awards will be delivered to schools after the tournament. We will not be awarding plaques for team sweepstakes, instead teams will be able to choose a non-profit to support from a list to be released.

NIETOC Bid Tournament:
The East Ridge Raptor Invitational is officially a bid tournament site for the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions. Students competing in Varsity Drama, Duo, Extemp. Speaking, Humorous, Informative, Original Oratory, Prose (counts as a Drama bid), or Program Oral Interpretation have the ability to earn a bid that will get them one step closer to competing at the NIETOC Tournament in Houston, Texas from May 7-9, 2021. If there are enough entries in any of the NIETOC categories, we may offer a Merit and Consolation final to offer more bids. For more information visit their official website.

MSHSL Categories:
Extemp. Reading (Prose): All Chapters
Extemp. Reading (Poetry): All Poems
Storytelling: Varsity: Stories 1-12 / Novice: Stories 1-10
