Dear Iowa Speech Coaches:

2020 has certainly brought its fair share of challenges, but with a little help from SpeechWire we are able to offer a safe online tournament opportunity to our students!
You are invited to join us for the NORTH SCOTT SPEECH SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR!

DATE:  Saturday, February 20,  2021

FORMAT:  Three Preliminary Rounds and a Final Round, all will be ASYNCHRONOUS; one video submission will be used for all rounds & finals.

STRUCTURE:  Three Preliminary Rounds: Each single-judged; judging assignments will be released by Friday 2/19 at 5:00 p.m. Preliminary rankings must be completed and submitted by Saturday 2/20 at 10:00 a.m. Additional comments and critiques can be completed after rankings are submitted; this is a bonus of the asynchronous tournament.

Final Rounds: Final Rounds will be judged on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Final rounds will have three judges for Overall Finals, and one judge for Grade 9 Finals. Since we will be completely asynchronous, a Grade 9 speaker could qualify for both Grade 9 Finals AND Overall Finals.

VIDEO SUBMISSION: Coaches will upload all student performance videos to their team SpeechWire
account. Make sure that all videos are set to public or unlisted so that judges will be able to access them!
All videos for this tournament should be recorded between 2021-02-11 and 2021-02-18.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES: Video submissions need to be uploaded by Thursday 2/18 at 10:00 p.m.

ENTRIES: You may enter up to 3 entries per event per team (42 Varsity and 42 Grade 9) with a maximum of 84 entries per team. Any speaker qualifying for Overall Finals and or Grade 9 Finals will earn sweepstakes points for their team. Teams will register online using SpeechWire.

JUDGES: Please confirm all judges by Monday 2/15. Each team is expected to provide one qualified judge for every six entries.  Hired judges may be available at a cost of $100 per judge. Judges do not have to be IHSSA Certified, although that would be great, it is not necessary for this format.  Judging assignments will be done in the traditional manner via Speechwire. If you choose to hire fewer judges and simply have each of them judge more than three preliminary rounds, that is an option available to you. But please be aware that we will need to cover 56 judging slots for finals (42 Overall Finals and 14 Grade 9 Finals), so you may want to have more judges on virtual standby for that time.

FEES:
01 -- 14 entries:  $42
15 -- 28 entries:  $84
29 -- 42 entries:  $126
43 -- 56 entries:  $168
57 -- 70 entries:  $210
71 -- 84 entries:  $252

EVENTS: All 14 IHSSA events.

INDIVIDUAL EVENT RULES: Please see you IHSSA Coaching Manual

LIMITED PREP EVENTS: All limited prep materials (Spontaneous Speaking Questions, Improvisational Acting, and Radio copy) will be sent electronically to coaches by 10:00 pm on Tuesday, 2/16. Coaches should schedule a time for speakers to prepare, record, and submit the video of their performance following
IHSSA rules and regulations. We will ask limited prep speakers and coaches to use the honor system to adhere to traditional time allotments for preparation and speaking. The same video performance will be used for all three prelim rounds, as well as the final rounds. When recording for Radio, you do not need to include visual video, just audio.

SPONTANEOUS SPEAKING AND IMPROVISATIONAL ACTING TOPICS: Each team with competitors in SS should submit 10 Spontaneous Speaking Questions and each team with competitors in IMP should submit 10 Improvisational Acting Characters & Situations via SpeechWire by Monday 2/15.

AWARDS: All individual finalists (Overall and Grade 9) and the top 3 teams will receive awards. Final round results will be posted on SpeechWire as soon as final rounds are finished, and physical awards will be mailed to schools the week following the tournament.

REGISTRATION: All teams should create a SpeechWire Account, and all registrations are to be submitted via SpeechWire. Please confirm your registration by Monday 2/15 at 10:00 p.m..

ENTRY DEADLINE:  Please confirm all entries by Monday 2/15 at 10:00 p.m..
