Coal City High School is pleased to announce that it will host its 16th annual Winter Break Speech Invitational, this year, on December 19th, 2020. Obviously things are a little different this year and I am still trying to wrap my head around how we are going to operate. As of right now, we are going to try and keep everything as similar to years past as we can, minus the fact that we aren't really limited by actual physical space this year. The Coal City coaching staff is still working on the specifics of the tournament and how it will function, but rest assured we will have a tournament on that date and when more decisions have been made, we will make sure everyone is aware of them. My email address is dsinkular@coalcityschools.org if you have any questions. The tournament will be 3 rounds and a final round. Please make checks payable to Coal City High School. Tentative schdule (very tentative as of right now) 5pm Thursday Dec. 17th- All videos need to be uploaded 6pm Thursday Dec. 17th- Judges will have access to preliminary videos 11am Saturday De. 19th- Preliminary rounds need to be completed by judges. 12pm Saturday Dec. 19th- Finals posted 1pm Saturday Dec. 19th First wave of finals begin 2:30pm Saturday Dec. 19th Second wave of finals begin 4pm Saturday Dec. 19th Live awards
General Information 1. Please register on Speechwire as soon as possible. Space is limited.
2. Complete the registration through Speechwire by December 17th! Please enter numbers as soon as possible and update them as they change. You can enter names any time prior to the start of the meet.
3. You can either mail me your check for $150 made payable to Coal City High School or bring it with you to the tournament.
4. Radio/ES/IS will have topics forwarded to coaches by 4pm Wednesday afternoon and will need to have videos submitted for Preliminary rounds by 4pm on Thursday. There will be no live prep for prelims, but will be for finals.
5. We would ask that all judges be prepared to time and to consider time somewhat in their rankings. Gross violations of time limits should be penalized. Judges in Impromptu and Extemp will also time, so bring at least one stopwatch per team!! Make sure your judges know how to signal time correctly for all events, but especially for Impromptu and Extemp!
6. Each school is to provide one judge for every 4 entries, up to 5 judges per team. Again, schools that bring extra entries will need to bring extra judges. ALL judges must wait for assignments to finals regardless of whether or not their school has students in finals.
7. We are still working on awards. (But I am making a promise that I will still have hoodies for champs and will mail them out!)
8. This would be the spot were we talk about concessions. This year, the food will be whatever is in your fridge or pantry!
10. If you have any questions please email dsinkular@coalcityschools.org
