Papillion LaVista South High School Invite
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Nebraska. View manager contact information
Dear Forensics Colleague,
Papillion La Vista South High School cordially invites you to attend the 10th annual PL South Speech Tournament on Saturday, December 5, 2020. This year, we are excited and proud to announce that we are a NIETOC National Qualifying tournament! We will have three preliminary rounds and finals. Please read over the invitation and e-mail me if you have any questions at laurie.hicks@plcschools.org.
EVENTS: HI, DI, Poetry, POI, DUO, Extemp, OO, Informative, Entertainment. NO IMPROMPTU THIS YEAR.
ENTRIES & FEES: Students may TRIPLE enter at their own risk. (That’s a lot of recording!) This year, we will be tabbing without speaker points on the ballots. Tiebreaking to decide who makes finals is based on 1) prelim round combined ranks, 2) opponent's strength, 3) head to head, 4) prelim reciprocals. Finals tiebreaking will be 1) rank in finals, 2) judge's pref in finals, 3) final round reciprocals, 4) prelim round ranks, 5) prelim round opponent's strength.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:
ONLINE TOURNAMENT: Due to COVID guidelines and restrictions, we are an ASYNCHRONOUS VIRTUAL tournament this year. This means that students will need to record themselves performing and coaches will need to link that performance to Speechwire, when registering (or before the tournament). Coaches, please view this video by Ben Stewart, if you are unsure how to do this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GZkuW3e76w. While the video is meant specifically for tournament managers, it should still answer many of your questions. I will send out an email detailing what doing a tournament this way means for judges, general meeting, and awards closer to the tournament. What you need to know for now:
· Judges have to be available (remotely) to judge during the scheduled round times. We still need to run the tournament in a specific timeframe. · General meeting and awards will be LIVE via Zoom. · Extemp WILL be remote and asynchronous, as well. We will send draws out 48 HOURS BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT. Students will be on the honor system about only using 30 minutes to prep. They will do the prep at home or with the coaches, and record a video for EACH ROUND. I will give more details to the extemp entrants and their coaches, specifically, after registration. I can’t send out draws much earlier than this and call it a limited prep event. So, please allow for recording time for your extempers the two days prior to the tournament.
Once again, this year, we will be using e-ballots. Please have an electronic device (phone, ipad, or laptop) and access to reliable internet, in order to fulfill judging requirements. Here is a quick tutorial on how e-ballots works, if you or your judges need it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJXxeVS-KgM.
The entry fee is $8 per event. Because of the nature of this tournament, I need entries a day earlier than usual. So…ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2nd.
JUDGES: You must provide one adult, qualified judge for every 5 entries. Since we are using e-ballots this year, judges need a valid email address when you register them on Speechwire. ANY ENTRY NOT ‘COVERED’ BY YOUR JUDGES WILL COST AN ADDITIONAL $15/ENTRY. Please try to cover with as many UNAFFILIATED judges as possible. If you have a very large entry, and a lot of affiliated judges, I may not be able to use all of your judges.
LATE CHANGES: After the deadline, please contact Laurie Hicks with any changes at: Cell: 402-297-2103; Email (preferred): laurie.hicks@plcschools.org THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS FOR DROPS AFTER December 3rd!
AWARDS Certificates will be mailed out to all students who made it to outrounds in each event. Team sweepstakes plaques will be awarded (and shipped out) to 1st-3rd places.
