Pequot Lakes High School is proud to be hosting the 5th Annual Pequot Lakes Early Bird Speech Tournament on Saturday, January 16, 2021. This year's tournament will be virtual using the NSDA Campus platform. All 13 MSHSL categories plus POI will be offered. All categories will compete synchronously, with the exception of Duo, which will upload their prerecorded videos.

 

Registration and Fees:

The cost is $7 per entry.

The preliminary registration deadline is Monday, January 11, at 6:00 pm. This deadline will help us estimate our virtual room needs.

The final registration deadline without penalty is Wednesday, January 13 at 6:00 pm. All drops after this point will be charged $7.

Tournament Format:

Three rounds and finals

Double entering is allowed with two exceptions- students may not double enter in two draw categories, and discussants may not double enter in a draw category.

Storytelling: 1-10

Extemp Reading Poetry: 1-20

Extemp Reading Prose: Zero, Four, Six

Discussion: Topic I; subcategories A, D, E and J

 

Individual and Team Awards:

Medals will be awarded to the top six finalists.

Stuffed eagles will be awarded to each category champion.

Ribbons of distinction will be awarded to outstanding performers who don't make finals.

Team trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
