On behalf of Classic Debate Camp, we are excited to invite you and your students to participate in a day of Extemporaneous Speaking, and traditional-style Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate. Hybrid teams of students from different schools will be permitted in Public Forum. Classic Debate Camp December Open Tournament will host competition using Zoom as our platform for synchronous competition. The tournament will kick-off on Saturday morning with the student and judge registration between 8:00-8:30 a.m. EST. Round 1 is scheduled to begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. EST. Please refer to Speechwire for additional information about start times for the remaining rounds. Both LD and PF will run 5 rounds. Extemporaneous Speaking will run 2 IX rounds and 2 DX rounds, followed by a final round for the top 6 speakers. We are hoping to run cross-examination for all rounds of competition. Student Congressional Debate will run 3 full sessions of debate for all competitors.

THE CDC DECEMBER OPEN WILL BE HOSTED ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2020. REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 A.M.  AND CLOSE AT 8:30 A.M. ON SATURDAY MORNING. A ZOOM LINK FOR REGISTRATION AND TOURNAMENT COMPETITION WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL REGISTERED COACHES ON FRIDAY EVENING.

Teams will be initially limited to 6 entries in each debate event, but more entries may be accepted later if space permits.

To help students maximize the benefits of online competition and what they learn from the CDC tournament experience, all judges will be encouraged to disclose their decisions and give oral critiques after each round. We are using Zoom rooms for all competion rounds allowing for observers to be permitted. We are asking that all participants and observers complete a consent/participant form that will be sent to coaches the week of the tournament.

Tournament topics will be the NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 NSDA designated topics:
Lincoln Douglas - Resolved: The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.
Public Forum - Resolved: The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use.
Student Congress will use the OSDA December 12 Docket.

Competitors are expected to provide judges for the tournament. 1 judge for every 2 entries in debate events is necessary to efficiently run the tournament. Schools participating in Extemporaneous Speaking should provide 1 judge per 3 entries. We will have access to a limited number of judges for hire at a rate of $40 per day. Please communicate with tournament directors by Friday, December 4, 2020 to request hired judges.
